“Mischa, I’d rather not talk about pack–related business, it’s after hours, and that sort of thing can wait until tomorrow. It’s not a pressing matter, as you stated yourself,” Anthony told her.
She knew it was pack business, but other than that, what did they have to talk about any more other than what he’d done to her. They’d both sat and ate their entrées in complete silence, because she had nothing to say to him, and he didn’t know what to say to her. She’d not been receptive to him when he’d come off that shaming post, like he thought she would.
He now understood she thought, she wasn’t going to be just letting him off the hook. That she could and would counter everything, as well as read into everything he said to her with a view to seeing if it was his intent to bring Christy up, and if he was trying to defend her in a round about way.
He had wanted this private dinner with her, and yet he didn’t know how to talk to her anymore. He’d stopped asking her how her day was or what she wanted to do after hours long ago, a year it had been since he’d been solely focused upon Christy, and he couldn’t even recall the smallest things about Mischa anymore. He’d let his new Mate, completely eclipse his Mate of 22 years.
The main meal arrived; a garlic and herb crumbed chicken breast with steamed vegetables and a side of potato bake. She wondered if he was playing it safe with these meals. It certainly wasn’t her favorite food, but she would eat it.
She moved her eyes from the plate before her as it was put down, to Anthony. “This is not my favorite meal.” She commented, “But I guess it will do.”
“I simply thought you’d like this,” Anthony commented.
“But it’s not what I asked for now, is it?” she sighed. “I guess you really have let go of everything about me haven’t you?” she stated simply and picked up her knife and fork to cut
into the chicken.
“Mischa, I didn’t mean to,” he stated.
“Of course not.” She nodded, though even to her own ears it sounded like an automatic response, and why? Because those words of his ‘I didn’t mean too.‘ meant absolutely nothing to her anymore. They were just hollow words that were in no way to her apologetic at all, as she knew they were supposed to sound to her.
She heard him sigh and looked at him. “What?” she asked, and he said nothing, just ate a bite of his own meal, and she stated after swallowing her own, “I’ve heard those words a million times Anthony, they mean absolutely nothing to me, just a hollow lie to cover up your

inadequacies where I’m concerned and nothing more.”

He frowned at her. “That’s not true, Mischa…” he stated, and there it was. She saw his eyes glaze over as someone connected a mind–link to him. She knew it was going to be Christy. It could only be that she–wolf seeing the rest of the pack, knew not to interrupt them.
She let her cutlery clatter down on to her plate and pushed her chair back, and he cut that mind–link and turned his attention to her to see her standing up to leave this room.
“I was connected too, I didn’t do that.” He rushed out as he stood up and held a hand out to her as if to stop her.
“Unacceptable, because I know for a fact, if you didn’t want it to connect you could dismiss it at will. As much as I can. So you, in fact, did allow it to connect to you. Accepted who it was and let them interrupt this dinner that was supposed to be just you and I…
“Now let me take a guess… it was Christy right. It certainly wasn’t a pack emergency, because we’d both get that, and it would have been Kendrick or a border patroller sending out an all–alert,” she stated flatly.
She saw guilt cross his face and shook her head, “So much for no interruptions. This is just like every other time you’re with me, and Christy finds a reason to interrupt us and draw your full and undivided attention away to her. Nothing has changed…”
“How could she even know we…”
Mischa raised a hand to stop him much the same way he’d just done to stop her from leaving the room, “Because, Anthony, I put that very thing to the test. You and her, I had her uncuffed on purpose and had the cell guard tell her you and I were going to be spending time together.
“I even had him tell her, that for every time she mind–linked to you, when you were in my presence it would be an extra day in the cells for her as a warning not to do it,” she told him of what she’d done. She didn’t really care what he thought about it.
“You always tell me she doesn’t do it on purpose, doesn’t mean to interrupt us but had a pack–related issue that she needed your assistance with… Pray tell me, what’s her excuse this time? Because she’s in the cells, so she isn’t handling pack business, and by pack law
she also isn’t allowed to talk to anyone inside the pack when under pack punishment.
“Even you, I can now see, will break pack laws for your precious other Mate, allowing her to connect a mind–link to you and talk to you. When you yourself know she’s not supposed to,” Mischa shook her head. “Thank you, for showing me how much you don’t care about me, but just how much you love her and that you’re willing to break all the pack laws and rules for her.

She walked from the dining room and heard his beast roar and the entire table get flipped over from what she could tell, and shook her head and sighed heavily. What was the point in him getting angry about her stating the truth of the matter?
‘Shade is just as responsible, Laud muttered, ‘allowed that connection too.‘
Mischa did know this. It wasn’t that he couldn’t control his human from showing her blatant disrespect; it was that they both wanted to be connected to their other Mate was all. Yes, she’d set them both up to fail, but that could only actually happen if they wanted to fail. Neither Anthony nor Shade had to let Christy connect to them. They simply wanted to hear her voice was all. So they’d allowed her to intrude and interrupt their private dinner just like they always did.
She walked through the packhouse down towards the library to return to her suite and made herself a meal, and poured herself a glass of red wine, to sit and eat by herself, only to have Paul connect to her.
‘What happened, Mischa? He’s fully ticked off, just sent Kendrick to the cells, Paul asked.
‘Did he?‘ That was interesting to her. ‘And all I did was prove a point.‘ She told him.
‘Which was?‘ Paul asked.
‘That despite him telling me, no one would interrupt our dinner, Christy was allowed to. She mind–linked to him and he accepted it. That mind–link only stopped because I banged my cutlery down on my plate. If not for that, I could probably have walked right out of the room before he even knew I was gone.‘ She told him.
‘She’s cuffed with silver.‘ She heard the confusion in her own Gamma.
‘I had that removed and her told about Anthony and I spending time together. Set him up to fail and he did. You know as well as I do, Paul, there are no mind–links from those under
punishment, yet he accepted that mind–link from her. Then he had the hide to tell me he didn’t
connect it, it came to him.
‘Can he not refuse it at will, being he is the Alpha?‘ she asked. ‘He just didn’t want to is all, and I proved his lie in less than what, 15 minutes of her being uncuffed.’ She stated and heard Paul sigh heavily himself now.
He said nothing because what was there to say. She leaned back into her seat and murmured, ‘Paul, he told me himself, no, he promised me, there would be no interruptions, something he only stated because, Paul, he knew Christy was cuffed with silver.
‘So he knew there would be no interruptions. I was making a valid point in showing him that Christy does it on purpose and that he allows it at every turn, nothing more, nothing less…

Now it’s seen that even with her under pack punishment, he still allows it. Showing me just how worthless his word is,’ she muttered. ‘What was Kendrick’s order from Anthony?‘ she asked curiously.
‘I believe it was to put that silver cuff back on Christy, Paul stated.
‘Right, she mused ‘Am I to know or not know that bit of information?‘ she asked right back as her brain ticked on what that could mean.
‘I don’t know, why?‘ Paul asked.
‘Because Paul, if I’m not to know, then he’s just playing at me, seeing that he’s not letting Christy interrupt anything between us for the next eight weeks is why, because I was the one that removed her cuff, she told him her thoughts on the matter.
There was silence for a long moment, ‘Alright, but you’ll also feel her be cut from you when it goes back on.“‘
‘Not my Mate,‘ she answered. ‘The pack tether is there if I opt to pull on it, but I don’t feel her getting cut from me. That’s an Alpha or Mate thing. She never pledged loyalty to me, only to Anthony.’
‘Right, Paul sighed, ‘I guess we’ll find out tomorrow, if he tells you what he has done or not.’
‘Likely so, she murmured and dropped the link.
Mischa settled in her bed and felt Kendrick connect to her ‘Luna. Christy has been cuffed once more at Anthony’s request to continue her full formal punishment. He has asked me to tell you that he’d like for you to not have it removed again.‘
‘Would he now?‘ she commented drearily.
‘Yes, he is in a rage, and Shade is very unhappy as well, currently destroying things in the woods.’ Kendrick sighed.
‘Hmm, well that Kendrick is completely on him and his beast. I just tested him was all and well… she trailed of didn’t need to explain herself.
‘I understand. Honestly, I saw it coming, as did May and Debbie. I, as the pack Beta, dished out a punishment to Christy while I was there for her breaking the pack rules. She got three lashes and then a bucket of ice–cold water thrown over her, is once again cuffed with silver.’
She shook her head, ‘I guess thank you, she murmured. She’d not been going to dish out a punishment other than an extra day in the cell. She’d done it on purpose and unfortunately gotten the desired outcome.

‘I also made it very clear that it was Anthony’s order that she be re–cuffed with silver. That she broke the pack rules, and that there was absolutely no need for her to connect with him at the time she did. That he is ticked off about knowing she did it on purpose just to stop him from giving you his undivided attention.‘
‘Alright, thank you for informing me, Kendrick.‘ She acknowledged his message and then cut
the link herself.
