The Eclipsed Life of Luna Mischa (by Jennifer Francis) novel Chapter 43

He was just standing there listening to her, he’d not interrupted her at all and that was likely because after last night he did actually know she wouldn’t be caving into him. That he didn’t or hadn’t truly understood how badly he’d screwed things up, and this right now, her telling him how she felt was something he did actually want to hear.

A part of him, she supposed, really did want to fix things, he couldn’t actually right the wrongs he’d done, there were too many, she’d not lied to him about anything. Told him how she felt and agreed not to reject him but hadn’t agreed to anything else. For the sake of their 20year loving bond, a part of her wanted to see if he could be redeemed, and if they could go back to the way they had once been.

Though another part of her already thought it was too late and all her thoughts about how she was going to be here inside this pack were aligned to the side of her that thought he would return to being only with Christy when she was no longer under punishment.

He was actively taking in her stance against him, listening to what she actually wanted, she thought, even Laud could feel Shade’s undivided attention on them through that broken bond. Somewhere inside of them they understood they were in the wrong and did need to make amends, but she couldn’t trust anything he did until Christy was also back in the picture, and he had to actively choose between them.

I will build a new suite for you and I, one that will never see Christy inside of it.Anthony finally stated after absorbing all she’d said.

Don’t waste the pack’s money. You let Christy do enough of that, she stated. I’ll not be the one that drains the pack’s funds on shopping sprees, not after all the time and effort I spent on getting it back into the black with you.She shook her head. So don’t spend money on me for unnecessary or wasteful things.

Spoiling you is not what I would call wasting pack funds,he told her.

She half laughed. When was the last time you did that for me?she commented, and he stared at her for a long moment before huffing.

You never want anything, Mischa, always tell me a nice meal and flowers are enough for you, he sighed.

Yes,she nodded. It was necessary in the beginning to help reduce costs for the pack and get it out of the hole it was in. Is what I’m used to saying, and you’re used to doing. Over the years, I have accumulated all I need, I suppose, so I don’t actually need anything anymore. I guess that’s why I still state that. She shrugged Force of habit.

She could see he was thinking about it. Her words had been specific for him to realize, they’d been in debt and couldn’t afford things that were considered to be spoiling of one. That Christy had come here after the pack was finally doing well, was out of debt, and so he’d not restrained himself with her at all, and did spoil her.

While he was still very frugal with Mischa, that he’d never once thought about dismissing her statement that dinner and flowers were enough and go out and buy her something just because it was her birthday or their anniversary. Hell even Christmas passed with her getting a single gift from him while Christy got half a dozen or more gifts.

Two years, Anthony, and if you lined up all of Christy’s gifts from you next to the gifts you gave me over the past 22 years, you’ll likely see there are the same amount of gifts or that Christy in fact would have more gifts than I have, probably dozens more.

He sighed. I always just accept your answer as I have previously done and not once thought about going and buying you something off my own bat, regardless of what you say.Anthony admitted I see I am very lacking.

Hmm, I’m used to it,” she shrugged. Just thought I’d point it out to you. Don’t go out of your way now, it’ll not be seen as anything but a gift coming from guilt, not because you saw something and thought, Oh Mischa would like that, I’ll surprise her with it.she stated

Mischa, I have to start somewhere, or our bond will eventually break completely, and I don’t want that. I want to make amends, regrow our bond so it’s good and strong once more.

I’m certain that you do,she nodded. But let’s wait and see if you still want that when Christy is right here in front of you. Back by your side to hold your undivided attention once more. Because I see no point until then. You understand why, yes?she asked.

Yes,” he murmured

Good because I’ll only believe you if you can do it without Christy coming between us at every turn, and her getting you to forget I exist in this world. Which is what she did, bit by bit, Anthony, you forgot I existed; was your Mate, that is how you made me feel. She told him.

She saw what looked like pain touch his expression at her words, but there was nothing she could do about it. All she could do was lay everything out for him to hear and see what he

made of it, what he would do with it.

At least he’d not argued with her about how he’d made her feel, and could it seem to understand why she was now this indifferent and didn’t want to even try to rekindle anything with him until both his Mates were available for him to spend time with.

Please do accept these flowers, Mischa, I chose them for you myself, to express that I’m sorry for what happened last night, and yes, I now understand it was not just partially my

doing. I allowed Christy to connect a mindlink with me, and interrupt our dinner when I told you there would be no interruptions.

This one thing, even though I’m unhappy about you setting it up so I would fail, showed me exactly how little you trust in my promises. That you also knew yourself that, regardless of my promise, if Christy mindlinked to me, I would allow the interruption, even when I knew there was no reason for the interruption.

You were just proving a point to me that I always allow this to happen, and Christy does it on purpose. That very thing is on me, not on Christy. Because you’re right, I can decline a mindlink at will to anyone inside this pack. So yes, it was me that broke my promise, to you.

Something I now understand you not only thought I would do, but actually expected nothing less from me, than to break my promise to youI am sorry for that, Mischa. He stated solemnly.

She nodded. “So am I. Trust once broken isn’t easily rebuilt.

No, it is not.He nodded slowly. But I will prove to you, I can be the man I once was, show you the love and care, that was once something I never even had to think about giving. It was just a natural thing between us. We will get back to that. It may take you some time to

believe me and trust me once more, but I will see us come back to that.

No more will there be a difference between either of my Mates. At any given time, I can see the errors I have made. Things will go back to how they were in the very beginningI’d give you my word buthe sighed softly It would mean nothing to you right now. So, I won’t state words you can’t believe and make a vow you’ll dismiss as a lie. Even if I do mean it.

She nodded at him, because he wasn’t wrong. She didn’t even really believe his words without the promise, because how could she after everything that had happened?

All I want now, Mischa, is for you to keep your word, stay here and give me the chance to make it up to you. Let that start today, with this small gesture.” He motioned to the flowers.

She nodded and watched him leave her office and sighed to herself, It’s a start, Laud stated.

Do you believe it?she asked her wolf.

Don’t know.Came the response. I get regret from Shade. Sense they want to be better.

But can they really change?Mischa sighed to herself. Only time will tell, only when Christy is back can we actually see if they are willing to not shunt us aside all over again.

Agreed.Laud huffed.

She went right back to work only to find Anthony and his unit in her office at the end of the

day. They were all looking at her, and he was carrying a cardboard envelope, and she could see it had Wolf Airlines on it. What is this Mischa?he asked as he placed it on her desk.

I don’t know. She frowned as she picked it up and turned it over. It was addressed to her.

Are you going somewhere without my knowledge?Anthony asked, his tone brisk.

She raised an eyebrow at him and then opened it before him. She had nothing to hide, she didn’t even know what it was. She slipped the paperwork from the envelope and unfolded it, read it, Very efficient. She murmured.

Where are you going and when?Anthony muttered.

Mischa looked at him, to the unit, and she saw worry on all their faces and shook her head. It’s for a return flight to California,” she stated, I’m going with Dr Brent to a medical conference in April. It was only organized yesterday.

Why would you do that? You’re not a doctor,he asked.

I’m not,she stated. I decided seeing as what happened with Christy. That I should go and gain some proper knowledge of such matters in the event it happens again. Dr Dana Reed is an expert on all things to do with wolfen fertility. I would like to talk with her about all the ways of what happened to Christy could come about.

What to do about such situations arising again? Drugs that might be needed or could be used to stop the heat from continuing, so she or anyone else in this pack doesn’t have to suffer through being over mated. She looked right at him pointedly.

They were all just staring at her. Paul, smiled a little knowingly and nodded at her. Anthony muttered, I don’t think it’s necessary for you to go. Brent can do that.

Hmm. Actually, as one of the pack’s Lunas, I do think it’s necessary. I would like to also speak with Dr. Dana about better drugs than we have here regardinghaving to suffer one’s heat alone. I’m certain there have been developments in that area, and if there have been, there is no better wolf than Dr Dana to speak with about that, and perhaps getting my hands on them as well,” she told him.

It will not be necessary. It was an unexpected oneoff thing,” Anthony told her.

But if it can happen once, it can surely happen twice, and it does now seem that Christy’s body might react to the scent of my own heat now, doesn’t itWhat if I go into heat in this office, and she’s right there to smell it, her body reacts to it in the same manner, and we’re suddenly both in heat at the same time once again.

I’d like to be prepared for thatwouldn’t you like your Mates to have a way to be in less

pain? You can’t tend to both of us at the same time. Soshe shrugged, Precautions need to be taken. Do they not?

He was frowning at her. He didn’t like what she was implying, but she turned that paperwork over and pointed out to him that it was a return flight. What? Did you think I was going to leave you?she shook her head.
