CH 84

It was an oddly weird week for her as Anthony canceled all his human world appointments and made them all meetings via Skype that he would have from his office here inside the pack. He’d spent Tuesday through Thursday sitting in his office and the door between his office and hers stood open even through those meetings he was having.

It was almost as if he was watching her, though why he would do that? Or what for? She didn’t know, couldn’t really understand him right this minute, she’d pretty much given him the all clear to just live with Christy full–time and not concern himself with her at all. That was what he wanted; she understood that much, so why hadn’t he just gone and done it? That confused her.

Nothing for her had changed at all over those days either, she just went about doing her job as the Luna and pack’s accountant and nothing more.

She’d also found him outside of her suite every morning, regardless of if it was a her or Christy day, she’d step out of her suite and there he would be, either still dressed in his training gear and looking and smelling all hot and sweaty as if he’d rushed to get to her door from training.

Or he looked freshly showered and dressed for the day after training, he smiled at her gently and offered to have breakfast with her. He didn’t once ring the doorbell, just stood out there waiting for her to leave her suite. It was odd behavior to her, and she didn’t once see him with Christy at all. He was keeping that out of her line of sight, she thought.

Wednesday morning was a Christy day and still she’d not seen that she–wolf. She’d also not once interrupted them sitting in the dining hall having breakfast. Even on her own day, she didn’t appear at the table and sit down. It was making her brain tick about just what was going on, though she did know Christy was still religiously attending Luna Lessons.

Now it was Friday morning, which again was a Christy day and her day off, something Mischa knew she would go into the city and spend with Anthony himself. Yet there was again. no Christy, and Anthony was, as she walked out of her office, standing there himself appeared to be waiting on her.

He was dressed in a suit and tie as if going into the head office, not something he’d done all week long. He’d gone smart casual every day, seeing as he wasn’t in the city. He obviously knew she was going to that meeting in the city with Ms Latrell, and so he was also now suddenly going into the city. It was weird to her.

She moved her eyes over his attire, to his unit, all standing there dressed for the office, all bar Paul who was now tending to Carol’s heat and would be until roughly Sunday. She looked at

Anthony questioningly.

He smiled at her. “I thought I’d drive you to your meeting,” he offered.

“Ms Latrell stated she’d only deal with me, did not want to deal with you, told Kendrick himself of that.” Mischa stated, “So you cannot attend this meeting.”

“I know, I’m not trying to take over the meeting, I’m just offering to drive you there is all.” Anthony nodded. “Kendrick and Dereck will ride with Letti and Rebecca; you and I can go in my car.” He smiled as if he’d planned it all out.

“Then how will the girls and I get back to the pack? If we don’t take our own car,” she asked right back.

“You can have my keys and drive my car back.” He told her simply.

Mischa raised an eyebrow “I don’t think that is wise. That would be better suited as something Christy did. She’s the one you’re seen with, out in the human world. I should not be seen using anything of yours,” she stated.

“I don’t really care what the humans think right this moment in time, Mischa. Our world is very different to theirs, and with us having a double–mate bond, it’s not fair to you that you and I can’t be seen together. So, perhaps it’s time I just stopped working from the head office altogether.

“Let Kendrick and the boys handle that. They all only have one Mate and so seen as loyal to their wives, something I can’t be seen doing, seeing as our Mate Bond calls for me to be seen with only one of you, because the humans don’t understand our ways. I can’t always just be seen with Christy all the time.”

She stood staring at him for a solid minute before speaking, then she just shrugged. “That’s how it is, and has been for a long time now. Don’t trouble yourself with it. I’ll take my car,” she stated, and moved on across the foyer heading for the door.

“It’s no trouble at all,” Anthony stated, “How about a compromise then? I’ll drive you, the boys can take their Mates, and you can all come home in Kendrick’s car, Letti can drive.”

She nearly sighed out loud as annoyance rolled through her. He already had a back–up plan, which meant he knew she was going to shoot him down and was looking for ways around it. “I’m going to insist Mischa,” Anthony stated, “We barely spend any time together at all anymore, and we need to start doing that, it’s how we start to bridge the gap between us, things were going well until Christy fell into the canyon, I don’t understand what changed with you,”

“Your attitude over my asking if Christy was alright, is what changed that,” She answered his

question, so he could think back to that very moment if he wanted to, stew over it, maybe.” Christy is where today; it’s her day to be with you.” she stated bringing up his favored Mate. I’m not interested in getting between the two of you at all, not for a single second, never have been, never will be.” She commented offhandedly to show him she didn’t care.

He frowned at her, “It’s her day off, she may go and do as she pleases, seeing as I’m going into the head office.” He answered her without pause.

Mischa looked right at him as they stepped outside, and she found his and Kendrick’s cars already there and waiting for her and the girls. He was doing things that weren’t normal for him to do.

‘He’s acting weird.’ Letti murmured down the mind–link.

‘What’s going on? It’s almost like he’s back to when it was just you and him.‘ Rebecca asked.

‘Who knows, I’ve done nothing different. My stance has been clear for a long time. All I did was give him that reading material, so he’d see there was no point in trying to get close to

me.‘

She heard hurried footsteps behind her and then Christy was trotting down the stairs and past her. Right as Anthony was about to open the front passenger door for Mischa, Christy appeared next to him and smiled up at him. “I’ll ride with you, Tone.” She stated and stood waiting for him to open the door all the way.

Mischa smiled to herself. Ah! There she was, just waiting for the opportune moment to put herself between her and Anthony. She watched as Anthony pushed the door closed and stopped Christy from getting into his car. “I’m not here to drive you into the city, I’m taking Mischa to a business meeting in the city. If you’re just going shopping, please take your own

car.”

“A business meeting! What for?” Christy asked right back. “She doesn’t go into the city for business, as far as I’m aware. It’s also our day to spend together… why do I get the feeling you’re trying to spend it with Mischa?”

It was Kendrick that spoke up before Anthony even could, “Mischa does actually attend business in the city, Christy. You just don’t care to see it because it doesn’t involve yourself.”

Christy turned and glared at the pack, Beta. “Don’t speak to me like that.”

“Why, you just spoke about Mischa like that? I’m just following your lead, but to clarify things for you, Christy, it was Mischa that made a handshake deal at the Gala Event we all attended while you were in the hospital. With one Ms Latrell, of Latrell Enterprises, and Ms Latrell stated to me, she would only deal with Mischa.

“If you want to argue it, and hold Mischa up and lose this pack a multi–million dollar deal going through, I don’t think you’ll be seen in a very good light. By not only the pack, but Anthony himself for losing the pack money, go right ahead and attend that meeting yourself. Though I don’t think you have the skills to land the deal or the introduction to Ms Latrell to get in through the door for the meeting.”

“It’s fine, she can go with Anthony. I’ll take my car. That was what I was planning to do anyway, Kendrick,” Mischa stated calmly as she walked down the rest of the steps and turned along the footpath that would lead to the garage. She wouldn’t be late because she’d allowed enough time to arrive 20 minutes early.

“Wait, wait,” Christy called out. “I’m sorry I honestly didn’t know you had a business meeting to attend together. I’ll go in my car, you can go with Tone, Mischa.”

“It’s not together.” Mischa called over her shoulder. “He simply offered me a ride and nothing more.” She turned and looked at Christy. “You go with him Christy, it’s your day to be with him, I wasn’t trying to get between you and Anthony.” She smiled at her and then turned and continued to walk away, literally proving her point by not getting between then but creating more distance away from them.

Letti and Rebecca joined her as she walked off, and Letti called out, “We’ll go with Mischa, seeing as we’re to be in that meeting as well.”

She got in her car, as did Letti and Rebecca, and they headed off, drove right past Anthony and his unit, Christy herself outside the packhouse. Anthony was headed back into the packhouse, and he looked more than annoyed. Christy was just standing there with a fist balled at her side.

“She screwed up Anthony’s plans, whatever they were.” Rebecca chuckled.

“It does appear that way.” Mischa nodded. “Looks like she got reprimanded too, and it seems he’s no longer interested in going into the city either.”

“Maybe it was just to spend time alone with you, as he said, to start trying to recreate what he broke.” Letti offered up.

“That… or he’s paranoid about letting you out of his sight at the moment,” Rebecca murmured “He’s had the office door open all week long, and with how you are with him, the

disconnection between the two of you, he’s worried you’ll just walk away one day without him knowing until after you’re gone.”

She nodded. “Could be.”

“Or maybe he’s trying to have his scent around you all the time. Perhaps he thinks that will help with the current detachment. He has now realized he’s never around you. You two don’t

sleep in the same suite ever, so there is nothing of him there. You’re here in the pack in the Luna’s office, and he’s in the city office. So no scent of him anywhere near you at all.

“Not being able to smell your own Mate’s scent for long periods of time would create a detachment in itself. Maybe he has found something in all that research that states that as well, so he’s trying to have his scent near you where possible. Thinks it might help the situation.”

“Anything is possible.” She nodded.
