She was headed for the medical conference in Obsidian to go and meet Dr. Dana Reed. Finally, the time had come. Brent had sat down with her in his office and between the two of them they’d made sure that all the relevant medical files were printed out for not only herself but Christy’s bloodwork as well, only he could print patient files from the hospital and had to have either her or Anthony’s approval as well.
Brent had gone so far as to place them all in a large envelope and seal it, mark it as Private and Confidential Medical Files, before handing it to her. She’d walked it right to her suite and put it in her suitcase along with all the things she’d printed and copied from the investigation and her own diary, things she thought would be useful to Dana.
She’d walked downstairs the following morning to meet Brent and his Mate, Kathy, who was to drive them out to the airport, only to find Anthony standing out the front of the packhouse leaning against his car. He stood up from it the moment she stepped out of the packhouse’s front doors, appeared to be waiting for her.
Though why she didn’t understand, she’d barely seen him at all since that meeting in his office about fencing the pack’s canyon. “I’ll drive you to the airport, Mischa,” he stated, and reached for her suitcase.
She pulled it back slightly and shook her head. “No, thank you,” and motioned to the car that was now pulling up right behind his. “Brent’s Mate, Kathy, always takes him to the airport,” she told him even as he frowned at her refusal. “I had no idea you’d want to take me yourself seeing as you’ve not once tried to see me in weeks, so I arranged to go with them.” she told him simply.
His frown deepened instantly, and he’d stepped forward and taken her suitcase from her hand, “Allow me then.” He stated as he took it and wheeled it over to Kathy’s car, and he placed it in the boot when it popped opened for him to do so. “I know you’ll be safe inside Obsidian Pack, but I still have concerns, with you being so very far away.”
She opened the back door as if to get in and turned to look at him. She didn’t think he had any true concerns for her safety, likely was more concerned that if she opted to leave him she was too far away for him to do anything about it.
He walked over to where she stood and behind him, she saw Christy step out of the packhouse and smile at her, walked towards them and Mischa waited to see what she was up to. Liked watching this stupid girl lay out her plans that always failed in the end. She’d probably make for a good psych evaluation project.
She walked all the way over to where they stood. “Have a good trip Mischa, and don’t worry

about anything, I will take care of the pack and Anthony while you’re gone.”

Mischa raised an eyebrow, “The Pack, you’re not yet qualified to do that, not even allowed inside the Luna’s office at this point…” She smiled right at that girl, and saw Christy’s annoyance right there on the surface. “I also put Luna Simone in my office for while I’m away. The pack loves her, and she’s happy to take over the pack Luna’s duties for me. I believe attending a Luna Blessing right now,” she added. It was a little petty of her to remind not only Christy, but Anthony, that the pack loved a former Luna more than his second Luna.
But if that girl wanted to come down here and play the I’m a good second Mate card, Mischa was willing to put her in her place could do it in a hundred different ways.
“Don’t fight,” Anthony muttered. “I don’t like it when you two fight.”
Mischa smiled right at him, “I’m not fighting with Christy, simply just stating a fact and correcting Christy’s misspoken words. As the Luna, I should teach her how to act, and she should learn from it yes.”
“I’m learning from…” Christy tried to get out.
“Stop it, Christy,” Anthony cut Christy off with a sigh. “Because that won’t work either. Seeing as for two years you did learn from Mischa and took nothing from her learnings.”
Mischa smiled at Christy, “Have a nice few days, all loved up and uninterrupted by… my and Anthony’s days while I’m not here,” she stated and smiled at him. “Oh, that’s right, you’ve been living with Christy for weeks now, not once even tried to spend a day with me,” she clucked her tongue “Didn’t take long what. Five and a half months to forget I exist once more and only have eyes for Christy.” She sighed and rolled her eyes. “So much for all you said to me while she was in the cells being punished for what…” she trailed off but knew he would know.
Anthony was just staring at her now, unable to say anything to defend his ass.
“You said I’d not see a difference,” Mischa went on. “But, when was the last time you asked me to have a meal with you? Or spoke to me without Christy right there next to you.” She looked at Christy pointedly.
“Mischa, I’m just trying to give you the space you need, since learning what happened to you,” he told her “It’s not like you think.”
“Isn’t it?” she murmured. “That’s not what your diary of days states on every Mischa page. Oh, and no.” She held up a hand quickly to stop him questioning her about if she was spying on him. “I wasn’t spying on you, I came across it when looking for an ink pad. It was an eye–opener for me,” she told him.
“Have a nice few days without worrying about having to write in it, just document ‘Mischa not

needed.’ From now on. Because you don’t need me at all. That much is clear,” she stated and saw his eyes go wide. She got in the car and pulled the door shut. “Let’s go, Kathy. I have no more to say to the Alpha of the pack.”
She used Anthony’s rank instead of what he was to her, because that was all he was now, he was nothing to her, it didn’t even hurt to speak to him this way. Though she saw it hit him in full, as she addressed him by formality not familiarity.
Seems he didn’t much like that at all, but that worked for her as well. It was a nice drive out to the airport and the three of them chatted about the pack’s canyon being opened up for the teens. It had been brought up to them, and they were all over it, industrious as Allen had said they might be.
They arrived in California and collected the hire car Brent had organized, and they took turns driving up the coast and to the Obsidian pack several hours from the airport in San Francisco. He had to be buzzed into a gated car park and then wait for a ferry. There were a few others here as well, standing around.
“We all leave the cars here, there are buses on the other side, to take us to the pack,” Brent stated.
Mischa nodded and just enjoyed the experience for what it was, being something completely new and different to herself. That bus ride up there gave her a chance to see the pack as they came to it and she kind of just got out and stared around her. “This place is nothing like a pack,” she murmured.
“No,” Brent chuckled softly. “You remind me of myself when I first came here… It’s made to resemble a medical research facility, even from above, so the humans don’t wander in. Designed this way on purpose is what I heard. I’ve watched it grow and expand over the years I’ve been coming here.”
They were not greeted by the Alpha or Luna either, but by the medical staff holding the conference, though not Dana herself, and were shown into a building that also wasn’t the packhouse, but a hotel, she supposed, though as she looked about she could see signage for a shopping district.
They were shown to two one–bedroom suites with an adjoining door and the layout of the building was on the back of her suite door. There were two entire floors of accommodation, and a full conference hall and, from what she could tell, a large restaurant. There was indeed a full small shopping center that had three cafés, and entertainment too.
This particular building, she thought, was designed so that those coming to conferences held here didn’t need to leave this building at all. Kept everyone away from the pack itself.

Brent knocked and pushed through the door to her room. “It’s set up this way on purpose, due to humans coming and attending medical conferences here at times. This particular conference is all otherworldly, so there will be no humans other than those that live here and are pack members that didn’t get a shift,” he told her.
“So no need to curb wolfen talk.” She nodded. “That’s good to know.”
“I’d say at least half the conferences held here are accessible to the human doctors and specialists, or research project findings being released formally. It’s why everything they need is inside this one building. So they don’t have to move about the pack, and we are actually requested to stay here in this building unless other appointments with particular pack members have been made.
“Even we have restrictions on where we can go, because we’re not affiliated with this pack. If we were, we’d have free roam. Though, as wolfen folk, we are allowed to take a stroll into the central garden. But that’s as far as we’re allowed. The Alpha prefers those unknown to him to stick to this building.”
Mischa nodded. “I understand that; it’s for pack safety is all. Unknowns roaming about could pose a threat.”
“Hmm, they could, though everyone is vetted before coming here for the first time, I vouched for you, and you’re in contact with Dana Reed, so you’re all good. However, Alpha Braxton is very accepting of all species, so don’t be surprised if you see vampires at this conference. They are made to meet the Alpha and swear an oath while being here not to feed on any pack members or guests, human or otherwise.”
She nodded, though was surprised about that; Vampires and Wolfen folk were almost mortal enemies, though she had no idea why it was that way, likely to do with them feeding on wolves in the very beginning, she supposed. She’d never met one, to know if they were all bad, but she didn’t think so if they came here for medical research conferences.
Her phone chimed and when she looked at it there was a message from Anthony, “Have you arrived yet?”
She stared at it for a moment and wondered why he bothered to even ask, and it only took a minute to realize that he would feel an ache inside his chest at her being this far away from him. A constant actual reminder that he had another Mate. She’d not even considered sending him a text or calling him to let him know she’d arrived safely. Didn’t know if she wanted to, but then sent, “Yes, I’m
