Janet didn't hesitate. She swung her hand and slapped Zoey hard, nearly smearing her perfectly done makeup all over her face.
Zoey clutched her cheek, utterly stunned. Here, at an auction hosted by the Locke family, Janet had the nerve to lay hands on her and Marcus without a second thought.
Worse for Zoey, she'd been humiliated in front of everyone. If she couldn't make Nina and Janet pay, she'd never be able to face anyone again.
Marcus roared, his face twisted with fury, "You fucking bitch! How dare you hit me? I'll make sure both of you rot in hell!"
This was the first time in his life he'd been slapped—and by a woman, no less. The humiliation was beyond words.
The moment Marcus finished speaking, Janet landed two more blows, hard enough to make the corner of his mouth bleed.
Janet didn't hold back as she snapped, "This so-called Winter family? I've never heard of them. And you're dragging the Reed family into this like they'll back you up? Offending you means offending them?"
Stefan almost laughed out loud.
Zoey and Marcus were putting on quite a show, puffing themselves up with talk of the Winters partnering with the Reeds. Little did they know the heiress of the Reed family was standing right in front of them.
He wondered what kind of expression they'd have when they finally learned who Nina really was.
"Ahh!" Marcus screamed.
For someone used to lording it over everyone, this was an unprecedented disgrace. "Security! This bitch is assaulting people right in the middle of the auction and you're just standing there? Are the Locke family rules just empty talk?"
Marcus' hysterical shouting jolted the onlookers back to their senses.
They couldn't believe it. Janet had openly slapped Marcus and Zoey without a care in the world.
They all wondered if she had powerful backing, or if she was simply asking to get destroyed.
Alexander snapped out of it and bellowed the order. "Get them! Everyone, move! Take all three of them down!"
He knew this was serious—the heir of the Winter family had been publicly humiliated. If he mishandled this, he'd be caught in the fallout, maybe even face the Winters' revenge.
