Nina walked up to Stefan, her usual aloofness melting away into concern. "Stefan, what happened? Did someone give you a hard time?"

Everyone stared, confusion written all over their faces.

That remark stung quite a few people, including Marcus and Zoey.

Marcus' expression soured. "Miss, Stefan's just some ex-con loser. He thinks he's somebody just because he's engaged to that Stewart heiress, but all he's done is cause trouble here. I'd suggest you stay out of it—unless you want to get dragged down when Mr. Locke shows up."

Nina snapped, "Who do you think you are, talking to me?"

Her eyes narrowed into a cold, sharp glare as she fixed her gaze on Marcus, her imposing aura weighing down on him. From what Stefan had told her, Marcus was the one pulling all the strings.

"You—" Marcus was livid, his face darkening.

He was the second heir of the Winter family, one of River City's elite. And here was this woman dressing him down in public like he was nothing. It burned him up.
