Gavin started to say something-he’d been back in River City for a year, and he knew the Tiger Head Society wasn’t something he messed with.

But Stefan seemed to read his mind. “It’s fine, Just drink.”

Gavin looked at him-that calm, steady face. Something was different about his old friend. And after all these years, trust was trust.

So he said nothing. Just kept drinking with Stefan, glass after glass.

Suddenly, a rush of heavy footsteps came from outside the private room.

A bear of a man stormed in-thick-necked, hard-faced. Behind him, dozens of men, poured through the door, radiating pure

menace.

Stefan’s eyes narrowed.

Then he almost laughed. He’d been ready for a fight-never thought it’d be him.

“Korbin!” Colby practically sprinted to meet him, bowing and scraping.

It was Korbin. This district was his turf. Word of trouble had reached him, and he’d come with muscle.

Fidel and his crew stood frozen, barely daring to breathe.

Korbin’s voice was gravel.

“Who started this?”

“Him!” Colby pointed at Stefan. “Korbin, please take him down. Make him pay.”

Korbin followed the finger. Stefan looked back at him, a half-smile playing on his lips. He raised his glass. “Korbin. The drinks in your establishment? Not great.”

Korbin froze mid-step. His whole demeanor shifted-deflated.

Then he was hurrying over, running almost, his forced smile more painful than a wince. His lips moved, his voice trembling.

“Mr. Bryant.”

Colby’s brain short-circuited.

Mr. Bryant?

What? Korbin just called that kid Mr. Bryant?

Mistaken identity. Has to be.

“Korbin…” Colby cleared his throat. “I think you’ve got the wrong guy. This is the one who started everything

Korbin grabbed him by the hair and slammed his face into the marble table. Forehead split. Blood everywhere.

“Open your damn eyes. You telling me Mr. Bryant started trouble? Even if he did, even if he beat your ass, you’d get on your knees and take it. You understand?”
