As for Fidel and his crew of hangers-on? Pale faces all around. They stared at Stefan as if he’d just landed from another planet.

They hadn’t seen a thing. One moment he was on the couch. Next moment-blink-he was back on the couch. And a dozen thugs

were on the floor.

If they didn’t know better, they’d think he’d hired actors.

“One, two, three…”

Gavin was counting on his fingers, jaw hanging open. “Seven, eight seconds-that’s all it took? You dropped all of them in eight seconds?”

“Eight seconds? That long?” Stefan frowned, rubbing his stomach absently. “Guess those whiskeys slowed me down.”

Gavin just froze. He had no idea how to reply.

Margery had her phone out, ready to dial the police. Now she just stood there, arm slowly lowering. Her eyes-wide, disbelieving- fixed on Stefan.

What happened to him in those three years?

He’s not the same man.

Colby had collected himself. He swallowed his shock. This was Tiger Head Society turf. He had backup.

Colby’s eyes turned cold. He said sharply, “You had a chance, kid. Walk away with bruises, maybe. But now? You put your hands on my men. On Tiger Head Society men. This is different.”

Stefan asked lazily, amused, “Different how?”

“I know

you can fight. But can you fight the whole Tiger Head Society?”

Colby pulled out his phone and dialed.

As soon as the call connected, he rushed to say, “Boss, trouble at Juno. Some guy started a fight and hurt our men. I brought backup-he took out a dozen guys.

“Yes. I’ll wait here.”

He hung up, triumphant.

He snapped, “He’s coming. Our branch leader. You’re dead, kid.”

Fidel’s face lit up. “The branch leader? That’s-that’s huge.”

A Tiger Head Society branch leader was at least a Hidden Force Grandmaster. Someone who could talk directly to River City’s major elite families. People like Fidel couldn’t even get an audience.

“Colby-which branch leader? Can you introduce us? We’d be forever grateful.”

opened doors.

Colby smirked. “Patience. Let him handle this first.”

“Yes, yes-handle them first.”

Fidel nodded eagerly, then turned to Stefan. “If you had any sense, you’d come knee! now. Get right with us. Maybe when the branch leader gets here, he’ll let you die quickly.”

Fidel’s crew cackled, delighted.

“This idiot really has a death wish. Hurting Tiger Head Society people?”

“Sure, he’s got some moves. But against a branch leader? Useless.”

“And he’s still drinking. Like nothing’s wrong. Pathetic.”

They’d been scared when Stefan took down the thugs. But now? Colby had called in the big guns. A branch leader-at least a Hidden Force Grandmaster. What chance did some bar brawler have?

Besides, the branch leader could summon a hundred men with a wave.

Stefan had one friend.

“Fidel. I told you before. You’re dust.” Stefan shook his head slowly. “But fine. Let’s see what your precious branch leader can do.”

He raised his glass to Gavin and drank.

Gavin whispered, “Stefan… the Tiger Head Society…”
