Micah asked Sara to stay behind-he clearly wanted to discuss the collaboration with her.

The rest of the Stewart family went their separate ways.

Chuck returned to the West Compound Villa in high spirits. He laughed and said, “Sara didn’t let us down! She locked in the deal with the Reed family. Our branch is finally going to be in charge for good.”

Audrey was overjoyed, too. A thought struck her, and she said, “Chuck, do you think this has anything to do with Stefan?”

“Huh? What did you say?” Chuck turned to face Audrey, his eyes wide with shock. “You mean Sara landing this contract is because of Stefan?”

“Don’t you remember? Stefan said he could help Sara. He even said the Reed family might come to her on their own.” Audrey grew more excited as she went on, “Look-everything Stefan promised came true. He wasn’t just talking. He must have helped Sara behind the scenes-that’s why Ethan came in person.”

Chuck froze for a split second. Stefan had indeed said those words.

But he quickly scoffed, “That kid was just talking nonsense. He doesn’t have the power to help Sara, let alone get Ethan to show up. You’re overthinking it. If anyone helped Sara, it was Evan.”

“How can you be sure Evan helped?”

“Isn’t it obvious? Ethan said he didn’t choose the partner-Ms. Reed did. Ms. Reed is all the way in Mound City; we can’t reach her. Only Evan’s father could have pulled strings there and put in a word with the Reed family.”

“I don’t care if Evan helped or not. Don’t you try to set Sara up with him. I don’t like him. Stefan is way better in every way, ” Audrey huffed and turned away from Chuck, refusing to talk to him anymore.

Hewitt and his family entered the South Compound Villa in silence, all looking grim and worried.

“Ethan told Dad to sign the deal at the bid-why did he change his mind out of nowhere? What really happened?” Hank muttered, bitter and unwilling to accept the loss.

Hewitt’s eyes sharpened. He said, “Hank’s right. Something must have gone wrong behind the scenes. Maybe someone helped Sara? Who has the pull to reach the Reed family and swing them to Sara’s side?”

His words were casual, but they hit Zoey hard.

Zoey had been quiet, but now Stefan’s face popped into her mind unbidden.

Philip stormed into the North Compound Villa and locked himself in his room. He grabbed his phone and dialed the same number again and again.

Each time, a voice told him the line was unreachable.

“Damn it, damn it, damn it!” Philip’s face twisted with rage.

Everything he had plotted had fallen apart the second Sara woke up.
