That was all John did.

The sound echoed softly inside the large, cold room, bouncing off the bare walls and tiled floor. The room smelled of damp concrete, dried blood, and something more disgusting.

John and Gladys sat on the floor, their backs pressed against the wall. Their hands were tightly bound behind them, and their legs were tied together with thick rope.

There was no way out. Even the small windows were tightly sealed up.

The white shirt John wore was no longer white. It was soaked with dried blood that had darkened into a deep red. His lips were split, his face bruised, and blood still leaked slowly from the corner of his mouth.

Yet, even in this broken state, he still looked strikingly handsome.

And he was laughing as if he had not been tortured enough.

It was a dry, mocking chuckle, filled with pain and defiance.”You know you are not funny, John,” a middle-aged woman with chestnut short hair and blue eyes snapped angrily.

She stood a few feet away from him, her arms crossed, her eyes cold and impatient. She is Johanna, Anna’s younger sister.

Beside her stood someone John never imagined would ever hurt anyone.

Wyatt, his son.

John lifted his head slowly and looked at them through half-closed eyes. His vision was blurry, but he could still see their faces clearly enough.

“So let’s get this straight,” John said hoarsely. “You want me to set your sister free. You want her to become the sole owner of Wyndham Residence. And you want Wyatt to get his job back.”

Johanna nodded without hesitation. “That is correct.”

She paused, then added with a cruel smile, “And my sister will also become a shareholder in the Wyndham Estate empire.”

John chuckled again, blood spilling from his mouth as he laughed.

That laughter snapped something inside Wyatt.

Without warning, Wyatt stepped forward and struck Johnhard across the jaw.

The sound echoed sharply.

John cried out as the force sent him stumbling sideways.

His head hit the hard wall with a dull thud. His body slid back down to the floor, weak and shaking.

Blood poured freely now.

– Gladys screamed.

“No! Please stop!” she cried, pulling against her ropes even though it hurt her wrists. “Please! You’re killing him!”

She looked thin, fragile, and exhausted. Her hair was messy, her eyes swollen from crying. She had no strength left in her body, only fear.

“I warned you to cooperate, John,” Johanna said coldly. “If you don’t, I will end both your miserable lives right here and right now.”

John tried to lift his head again, but his body refused to obey him. His breathing became shallow. His eyes fluttered weakly.

Gladys noticed immediately.

“Oh my God,” she sobbed. “Please stop hurting him. He has lost too much blood. He needs a doctor. Please… please help him.”

For the first time, Johanna hesitated. Her eyes scanned John’s condition properly now. She saw that he had lost so much blood, his skin looked pale. And his breathing weak.

Fear crept into her face.

This wasn’t part of the plan.

They were told to scare him, to pressure him, and to break his will. Not to kill him.

“You idiot!” Johanna snapped, turning sharply to Wyatt.” Why can’t you use your brain for once? How do you expect us to get anything if he dies?”

Wyatt frowned: “I didn’t know he was this weak. And even

Because behind the gunman walked a man with calm eyes and a deadly presence.

Stone.

He stepped inside with two heavily armed men behind him. Their movements were sharp and professional. Their guns were raised, fingers steady on the triggers.

Wyatt’s knees nearly gave out.

Stone’s eyes went straight to John and Gladys, and his jaw tightened.

He raised his hand slightly.

“Secure the room,” Stone ordered calmly.

Within seconds, the two men moved. One disarmed the stunned gunman. The other pinned Wyatt to the ground before he could even scream.

“Don’t move,” the guard warned coldly.

Stone walked closer to John and crouched down.

“Sir,” he said firmly, checking his pulse. “Stay with me.

Help is here.

Gladys sobbed in relief. “Please… please save him.”

Stone nodded once. “You’re safe now.”Outside, more gunshots echoed, followed by screams and orders being shouted. Backup had arrived. The nightmare was finally ending.

Stone straightened and spoke into his earpiece. “Target secured, call medical. And move for immediate evacuation.”

He looked down at Wyatt, who was shaking violently on the floor.

“You’re done,” Stone said quietly. “All of you are.”

For the first time since the nightmare began, hope returned to the room.

But Stone knew that the real enemy was still out there.
