Chapter 480 Anchor

The dark mass behind thenrchased after them like a living storm cloud.

Bushes were crushed wherever they passed. Trees were shoved aside. Even the ground trembleg 1ghtly beneath it

These were Crackshell Crabs.

They looked like giant crabs, but each one was bigger than a person. Their bodies were covered in dark red shells, and their giant claws stretched nearly seven feet wide when opened.

With their strength and equipment, one Crackshell Crab wasn’t scary. Even fen were manageable. But thousands of them?

That was a disaster.

“Captain Mitchell, I can’t run anymore!”

The trembling voice came from the tall, skinny man at the back of the group.

His name was Nathaniel Harrison, the team’s scout. He wore light armor and was the fastest member of the squad, but his stamina was the worst.

Three straight days of escaping had drained him completely.

“Shut up! If you don’t want to die, keep running!” Captain Bukowski Mitchell barked through the communicator, his tone cold and harsh.

Bukowski had SS-level mental power and was the captain of Black/Panther Squad.

He ran at the very front of the group, his black light mech weaving through the jungle. Every step landed perfectly on the best possible route.

Vice-captain Victoria Rosewood followed closely behind him. She had S-level mental power, a sharp figure, and movements that were fast and clean.

The other seven members were all A-level fighters. In any mercenary squad, they would have been core members. Yet now they were just as miserable, sprinting desperately through the jungle.

Clara ran near the middle of the team.

Her mech was top-class.

She had saved money for three years to buy it, and it was better than most of the squad’s equipment.

But after three days of nonstop running, even the best mech couldn’t hold up forever.

The energy warning light had already turned yellow. The hydraulic joints had started making faint grinding noises.

Still, she gritted her teeth and kept running.

“Ahhh!”

A scream suddenly came from behind her.

Tyson didn’t even lift his head. He kept adjusting the weapons system white talking. “Ma’am is personally going on this mission. How can we relax? If one of these gems jams and something happens to her, I’ll never forgive myself”

The engineers snorted and continued working.

Melton locked himself inside his office for three straight days, studying the remote sensing data from X-7:

He marked the planet’s terrain, climate, vegetation zones, and water sources, then drew a massive map.

Different colors covered the map, marking dangerous areas, suspicious areas, and places worth exploring. The dense notes were enough to make anyone dizzy.

Possible traces of large creatures here. High-priority area.

Heavy vegetation here. Likely herbivores nearby. Search carefully later.

Open terrain here. Suitable campsite. Mark coordinates.

Terrain here is complicated and easy to get lost in. Avoid this area if possible.

Meanwhile, Tiffany made a three-page logistics checklist.

Food, water, medicine, weapons, ammunition, energy cells, spare parts, communication devices, protective suits, ropes, lighting tools, scanning equipment… She checked every single item over and over again.

“Besides everyone’s storage buttons, we should also pack extra first-aid kits,” she muttered to herself. “If the storage buttons fail to open, we’ll still have emergency supplies. Double the weapons and ammo too. If they run into stronger enemies, they might need them. And bring an extra month of food and water supplies, just in case they can’t make it back…”

She suddenly paused, then quickly cursed under her breath.

“Knock on wood. Stop saying stupid things. Of course they are coming back.”

She checked the list one more time before finally closing the device.

It was already late at night.

Elizabeth stood by the office window, looking toward the spaceship being repaired at the distant spaceport,

The mech engineers were still hard at work, moving around the ship nonstop.

The lights at the training grounds were still on too. From far away, she could faintly hear the sounds of Desmond and the others sparring.

She suddenly smiled.

No one understood her strength better than she did. Even entering a waste planet alone wouldn’t be a big deal for her.

But now, seeing everyone protect her so carefully and worry about her like this…

It moved her a little.

So, this was what it felt like to be cared about by others.
