The assistant looked like she wanted to say something more, but she simply acknowledged the order and left.

Cyndi continued handling her work.

What she didn’t know was that Vance’s exposé post had already been pushed to the front page of the local forum. It had more than 300 replies by now, and plenty of them came from customers who shared similar experiences.

[Same thing happened to me yesterday. I just wanted to buy pork, and they forced me to take two pounds of rotten tomatoes with it!]

[Seafarm is getting way too full of itself. Do they really think they’re a monopoly now?]

[Come on, Tycoon Farm! Hurry up and launch meat, egg, and dairy products! I’ll support you for sure!]

One reply in particular gained huge traction. [Latest news: Tycoon Farm seems to be exploring waste planet hunting operations. One of my relatives just came back from there a few days ago. Apparently, their boss recently returned from a waste planet and brought back a bunch of Cluckoo Chickens.]

If Seafarm’s people had seen these comments, they might have reconsidered how they handled things today.

Too bad they never did.

In their eyes, the complaints online were just the whining of losersnothing capable of causing real trouble.

At 6:00 p.m., Cyndi finished her workday and prepared to leave.

As she walked through the supermarket floor, she saw plenty of customers still shopping. Though many wore dissatisfied expressions, their carts were still piled high with goods.

She smiled in satisfaction.

That was Seafarm’s confidence.

No matter how unhappy customers were, no matter how much competition appeared, they would still choose Seafarm because Seafarm had the things they needed.

Newman carefully carried a specially designed insulated storage case through the crowd.

The case had been specially issued by the farm for his use. Inside was a miniature lowtemperature system and an antigravity device. Even after interstellar warp travel, the fruits and vegetables inside would remain as fresh as the moment they were harvested.

Newman quickened his pace.

This weekly Friday flight home had become the moment he looked forward to most every week.

A month ago, Newman had still been the most insignificant temp worker at Seafarm Supermarket.

This daily tasks consisted of repairing broken shopping carts, replacing darraged shelf tags, or being sent to clean three yearsworth of dus! out of refrigeration units.

His meager salary barely supported him and his younger siblings, and his riture had looked hopelessly bleak.

Everything changed the day he successfully got hired as a mech maintenance technician at Tycoon Farm.

During this past month at Tycoon Farm, every single day had shattered his old understanding of life.

On his very first day, he was assigned to his current mentor, Fulvio Hancock.

The moment Newman saw him, he was honestly intimidated.

Fulvio looked terrifying, especially with the scar running through his left eye, which made him seem even fiercer.

But after getting to know him, Newman realized his mentor wasn’t just highly capable he was also genuinely kind.

On the first day of training, Fulvio brought him to the landing pad on the east side of the farm.

Three mediumsized cargo ships and five agricultural mechs were parked there. They weren’t brandnew models, but they were al maintained in excellent condition.

Kid, these are the machines you’ll be responsible for from now on,Fulvio said, patting the leg armor of one of the mechs. The farm ships goods to three nearby star systems every week, so the cargo ships can’t afford a single problem. And these mechs handle plowing, planting, and harvesting.

Newman tilted his head back to stare at the towering machines, his palms growing sweaty.

Back at Seafarm, the biggest thing he’d ever repaired was an automated cargo cart. Equipment on this scale was completely beyond his experience.

Don’t be nervous,Fulvio said, seeing right through him. I heard your theoretical knowledge is solid. That’s enough. I’ll teach yo

the rest.

Over the following days, Newman felt like he’d stumbled into paradise.

During the day, he followed his mentor to learn handson repairs. At mealtimes, he ate with everyone else in the cafeteria, enjoyi the best food he’d ever tasted in his life. At night, he stayed in the employee dorms studying the field notes his mentor had writte before retiring from military service.

Their boss occasionally came by the landing pad, but she never hovered or barked orders. She simply watched them work quiet! and sometimes asked one or two key questions.

Newman learned quickly.

By the third week, he could already perform routine maintenance on cargo ships independently.
