Chapter 564 A Sample of Six

Chapter 564 A Sample of Six

Hudson didn’t so much as blink as he picked up the slice of sponge cake and took a bite.

“You’re young,” he said between chews. “You should be eating more fruits and vegetables. I’ll do you the favor of handling this cake for you” (D

The colonel’s claim earned him nothing but a long, silent stare from Ronald.

Elias had removed himself from the contest over the cake entirely, focusing instead on his tea.

The more he drank, the more he became convinced that something about the water refused to align with the ordinary.

Ordinary filtered water didn’t taste like this.

Years spent managing supply chains and evaluating resources had left him with an almost obsessive sensitivity to quality.

He waited until Callista emerged again to refill their cups, then rose with his empty cup met her with a carefully measured question.

“Excuse me, do

sell this water?”

She seemed genuinely puzzled for a moment before replying, “You want to buy water? It’s just the farm’s regular drinking water. We don’t have any plans to sell it right now.”

Elias opened his mouth to ask another question, only for Hudson to cut in first. “Ma’am, would

sponge cake?” you mind telling us the recipe for this

Callista blinked. “The recipe?” She laughed. “Nothing special about it. It’s the most basic sponge cake imaginable. If there’s anything unusual, it’s probably the ingredients themselves. The flour and eggs both come from our farm.”

She took her empty tray and disappeared back into the house, leaving the group on the porch to stare at the half-finished plate of cake and the cooling tea in silence.

Then Hudson spoke, the playful edge gone from his voice. “When are your Cluckoo Eggs officially hitting the market?”

The question sounded casual enough, but everyone at the table could hear the eagerness underneath it.

Callista was still busy inside and did not answer, but Elizabeth chose that moment to walk over

She was pulling off a pair of blue and white medical gloves after helping Evander complete a round of on-site quarantine sampling.

“Next Monday,” she replied, taking over the conversation. “Why? Interested?”

Hudson turned toward her and nodded without hesitation. “Very interested. I’ve worked military logistics for more than 20 years. I’ve seen every kind of ingredient imaginable, but that sponge cake…”

He paused, searching for the most precise description. “I ate four pieces, and I’m willing to stake my reputation on this. The quality of both the flour and the eggs is beyond anything currently available anywhere in the Kingdom.”

The flour was already a settled matter. The Third Military had completed its procurement evaluation of Tycoon Farm’s grain products. Now the eggs were the real prize.

Across the table, Irvin found himself nodding in agreement.

As a member of the Fifth Military’s assessment team, he should have kept his opinions strictly neutral.

Unfortunately, Hudson’s comment had triggered an involuntary memory of the sponge cake’s rich flavor, and his head dipped before he could stop himself. Realizing his mistake, he quickly transformed the movement into an exaggerated neck stretch. D

Elizabeth smiled and walked to the wooden table, pouring herself a cup of the same water and drinking it slowly.

She set the cup down with a soft click. “The eggs in the cake came from their Cluckoo Chickens. While current production remained modest at roughly 2000 eggs a day, half of those had to be reserved for hatching and expanding the flock, leaving the other half for sale. But since you seem to like them so much…”

She continued, her gaze moving from one face to the next, “Everyone can take home a box of sponge cake as a gift from the farm. As for fresh eggs, we can’t supply them in large quantities yet. That said, if you’re curious enough to try them, I can make an exception. Six eggs per person. If you end up getting addicted and want more, you’ll have to wait until next Monday.”

“Six is fine,” Hudson said at once. “Six is more than fine. I’ll pay whatever price you’ve set.”

Elizabeth waved him off. “No need. Consider it a sample. If you like them, we can talk business later.”
