“Yes, Uncle Anthony. I’m an Awakened,” Tylissa answered. This time, facing Anthony, she felt a newfound confidence, her voice steadier than usual.
Back in her room, Tylissa shut the door and tapped open her control panel. She saw that her status bar had finally changed: Awakened (Fourth-tier Viscount; 189,000 Reputation Points required for the next level).
Tylissa jumped for joy. “Yes!”
She had been forced to suppress her excitement outside, but now that she was alone, she just
wanted to let it all out.
“System products really are top-tier!”
The day before yesterday, the System’s main quest-which had been greyed out for ages- suddenly lit up. Upon checking, she realized the next mission was for her to participate in the Interstellar University Awakened Competition later this year.
Her heart had nearly frozen when she saw it. As an ordinary person, how could she possibly enter a competition like that?
To her surprise, she found a notification in her inbox: she had been awarded a serum capable of triggering an Awakening in ordinary humans.
That stingy system had finally decided to be generous for once. It was the one thing she had desperately wanted ever since she’d been bound to the System.
Becoming an Awakened was her ultimate dream, and now that she had succeeded, she finally felt she had the right to stand tall.
After taking the serum, she had endured far more agony than she ever had during the “electric shock” punishments. She thought she wouldn’t survive, but when she woke from her faint, she felt a massive shift in her perception.
There was a power core in her mind! This was the proof; she had made it. She had successfully Awakened.
Tylissa had immediately informed her family and gone to the Department of Awakened for testing. Sure enough, the System’s goods were high quality-her Awakening level was impressive.
A fourth-tier viscount was a brilliant start. If she could gather enough points through the

Ava just wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. She gave a frantic little nod. “Can we go now?”
Laurent picked up a sky-blue spaghetti-strap piece as well. “This one, too.”
The clerk took it immediately. With his sharp, experienced eye, he could tell the girl’s size at a glance, but following protocol, he still cautiously asked for her measurements.
Ava gave him her size, and the clerk selected the correct fit and bagged the items. He handed the shopping bag to her with a flourish. “We look forward to your next visit, Miss.”
Next visit? There definitely won’t be a next time, Ava thought.
As they stepped out of the swimwear boutique, Laurent took her shopping bag, so he was carrying everything.
With her hand still firmly in his, Ava said, “Can we go back now? I’m done shopping.”
“You want to go home?” Laurent replied. “Then, let’s go home.”
Just as they were about to leave, Ava suddenly heard her name being called. “Ava…”
She looked up and saw Naomi, Malory, Noelle, and Zoey standing just a short distance ahead.
Ava opened her mouth, but for a moment, she was completely speechless.
The girls hurried over. Once they reached her, Naomi spoke up first. “Ava! You’re out shopping, too?”
Malory scratched her head, glancing at the man next to Ava. He looked incredibly familiar. “Ava, who is this?”
Noelle noticed their interlocked hands. She let out a fake cough and said, “Well, if you’re busy shopping, we’ll get out of your hair.”
Zoey, however, was staring straight at the man’s face, her expression one of utter disbelief. “Are you… the chief instructor?”
Laurent glanced at her. Zoey’s scalp instantly went numb, and she grumbled to herself, Crap, what on earth is going on here?
“I’m Laurent Caswell,” he stated simply.

Hearing the name, Malory jumped. She began to stutter, “Ava… the chief instructor is your…”
Malory felt like she was about to bite her own tongue off!
Ava gave a small, sheepish nod. “Sorry, I didn’t tell you guys. It felt… awkward to bring it up during military training.”
Malory felt like crying. She suddenly remembered how much she had trashed Laurent while she and Ava were on their wilderness survival challenge!
Looking back, no wonder Ava’s expression had been so hard to read at the time.

Naomi forced a stiff, dry laugh. “Well, Ava, we’ll leave you to it. We’re going to keep shopping.”
With that, the group beat a hasty retreat.
They didn’t stop until they reached the opposite side of the mall. Only then did Malory find her voice. “Oh my god! The chief instructor is Ava’s match?!”
The girls traded looks, still reeling from the shock.
Zoey was still in a daze, whispering, “The chief instructor… and Ava… no wonder she was assigned to the instructors’ dorms during training.”
While Noelle had been surprised at first, she took the news in stride. She rested her chin in her hand and said, “It’s a shock, sure, but if it’s Ava, I actually don’t see anything wrong with it. They kind of fit.”
Malory was still struggling to digest the news. She pressed a hand to her forehead, her expression full of regret. “I said so many bad things about him right to Ava’s face during training!”
