“You’re planning to stay at my place?”

“Is that a problem?” Laurent lowered his gaze, looking her in the eye. “You wouldn’t really have the heart to make me go home to sleep every night, would you?”

“Uh…” Ava was at a loss for words.

“You already let me pick a room today. We aren’t sharing a bed, so why not? My place is quite a distance from here. Do you really have the heart to make me commute back and forth every single day?”

Laurent’s brow furrowed slightly as he held up a towel. “If you want to refuse, I’ll respect your wishes.”

“I’ll wait for you outside,” she blurted out. She bolted before he could even reply.

Laurent watched her retreat, a smirk playing on his lips. Still, he had achieved his goal for the day. Everything else could happen in due time. He tossed two boxes of his size into the basket.

If the others wanted to play the “pure, restrained love” game with her, he was happy to be the outlier. When he liked something, he would do whatever it took to get it, rather than playing out some drama where “the more you love, the more you hold back.”

Before long, Laurent walked out of the store carrying several shopping bags. Men were quick shoppers; he hadn’t even finished a lap of the floor, and he was essentially done.

“Do you want to keep looking?” Ava asked.

“Let’s walk a bit more,” Laurent said. “The women’s section is upstairs. Let’s head up; if you see anything you like, we’ll get it.”

Ava shook her head. “I have plenty of clothes. I don’t need anything.”

“Just think of it as window shopping.” Laurent took her hand and led her upstairs.

The women’s floor was significantly more crowded. With summer approaching, the stores were filled with a dazzling array of breezy outfits.

Laurent led her along the aisle, stopping abruptly when they passed a swimwear boutique.

“Let’s keep going,” Ava urged. “I’m not buying one of those.”
