Lilly stood in the dressing room, pulling out her clean clothes. With her back to the door, she carefully started changing into her underwear. That’s when she heard a knock.
Was Ella already here?
“Come in,” Lilly called out, not turning around.
The door creaked open. But it wasn’t Ella. It was Jace.
He stepped inside and immediately froze up. Lilly was halfway through changing. She already had on her short school skirt, and was struggling with the clasp of a new bra. Both of her hands were behind her back, trying to hook it.
Jace hadn’t expected this at all. He’d knocked, but he really didn’t mean to walk in on her like this.
Lilly’s skin looked soft and almost luminous, her figure delicate, her long dark hair falling down her back and tangling around her arms. The soft curve of her waist and the smooth line of her back were impossible not to notice.
Jace quickly averted his eyes and turned to leave.
But Lilly’s gentle voice stopped him. “I can’t get this clasp to work. Can you help me?”
She shuffled back a few steps until she was right in front of him. “Here. I just… I can’t reach.”
Jace didn’t move at first.
Lilly sounded a little desperate now. “Please? My hands are killing me. And my whole body aches.”
Jace looked at her again, noticing the red marks and scratches on her skin. Something twisted in his chest. He lifted his hands and reached for the clasp.
“Stop right there!” Lilly’s voice was sharp.
His hand paused on the doorknob. He still looked like he was about to leave.
Lilly was almost laughing from nerves. He really wasn’t listening to her at all. She darted forward, squeezing between him and the door, her back pressing against it. With a click, she closed it again.
Lilly tipped her chin up, meeting his eyes. “Jace, I said stop. You’re not leaving.”
Now they were standing close, with Jace so much taller that he had to look down at her. His face was cool, his expression unreadable. “What do you want?”
Lilly’s cheeks flushed pink. “What do I want? I should be asking you that. Jace, you just saw everything!”
