The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 409

Rachel blurted out, “Ella, how did you even find the fake Doctor E?”

Ella’s lips curled into a sly smile. “That’s my secret. Right now, I’m here for my father’s ashes.”

Grandma Jill stepped in front of her, blocking the way. “Ella, you can’t just—”

Ella kept her gaze steady. “What’s wrong? Planning to go back on your word? If you try anything, I’m not handing over the fake Doctor E. And you can forget about getting your money back.”

Grandma Jill hesitated, her voice a little shaky. “Ella, I would never break my promise. It’s just… today isn’t a lucky day. Why don’t we wait for a better day to take your father’s ashes?”

Ella’s eyes didn’t waver. “Any day I bring my dad home is a good day.”

She brushed past Grandma Jill and headed for the old Irvine family estate. The foreclosure seals were still stuck to the door. Ella peeled them away, pushed open the heavy doors, and stepped inside.

The place was silent except for her footsteps. It didn’t take long to spot her father Jon’s name, tucked away in a dark corner. His urn was shoved to the side, half hidden under a dirty rag, long dusted.

The sight broke Ella’s heart. She couldn’t understand why the Irvine family treated her dad like he never mattered. Why?

She gently picked up his urn and brushed off the dust, her eyes stinging. “Dad,” she whispered, “I’m here to take you home.”

Ella hugged it close, and strode out of the hall.

Grandma Jill’s eyes flashed cold. “What are you all so scared of? It’s just ashes. Do you really think Ella can test them for poison? You’re giving her too much credit.”

The truth was, Jon had been poisoned.

Peter, Logan, and Rachel let out a breath, a little more at ease. As far as they knew, Ella didn’t have any way to prove what had happened to her father.

Grandma Jill’s voice turned harsh. “So what if Jon’s gone? He owed us. He was never really one of us anyway. I found him on the street and raised him. He should’ve been grateful to pay the family back.”

She paused, her tone dropping even lower. “It’s not like I wanted him dead. But when he discovered the truth about Ella’s parents and tried to take her to the capital, he left us no choice.”
