The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 416

Ella asked David to come outside. She needed to talk to him. Right away, Jessa got tense. She grabbed David’s arm and wouldn’t let go. “Ella, whatever you have to say, just say it here,” Jessa insisted.

Ella looked at them, her stomach twisting. She was pregnant. Why should she be the only one dealing with all of this while David and Jessa acted like nothing was wrong? No. She wasn’t going to carry this alone. She needed to tell David.

“Jessa, this isn’t something for you. I can only talk to Mr. Harmon about it,” Ella said quietly. “Mr. Harmon, I’ll be waiting for you outside.”

She walked out. Jessa held onto David’s arm tighter. “David, don’t go.”

He gently pulled himself free. “I’ll just be a minute.” David walked out of the room.

“David!” Jessa called after him, annoyed.

...

David found Ella waiting in the hallway. He walked over to her. “You wanted to talk?”

Ella nodded. “Yeah. I do.”

“So, what’s up?” he asked.

Ella hesitated, not sure how to start.

David frowned. “Why aren’t you saying anything?”

“Mr. Harmon, have you ever thought about being a dad?” Ella asked.

He looked surprised. “Why are you asking me that?”

Ella gave a small, tired smile. “You’re not getting any younger, you know. Just curious.”

David shook his head. “No. I don’t like kids.”

His voice was cold, making it clear he didn’t want to be a father. Ella wasn’t shocked, but she still felt a little disappointed. “Oh, okay.”

David looked her over. “Is that really why you wanted to talk? Ella, don’t tell me you’re pregnant.”

“No!” she replied quickly.

Just then, her phone started ringing. Ella glanced at the screen. It was Wyatt. She pressed decline.

“Jessa just told me.”

David frowned, obviously troubled. He hadn’t wanted Jessa to find out, but she had, and she’d told Ella, too.

Ella looked him straight in the eye. “If I save Jessa, I won’t survive. Are you seriously asking me to die?”

David stayed silent.

Ella let out a bitter laugh. “Jessa and I aren’t even close. I’m not stupid enough to give her my heart. So stop thinking about it. Unless you really want me dead.”

David’s face was impossible to read.

Ella pulled her arm free, turned, and walked away.

David stood there in the hallway for a long time before finally going back inside.

“David, you’re back. What did Ella say to you?” Jessa immediately wanted to know.
