Ella’s eyelashes fluttered. David was taking Jessa home tonight? Were they really going to sleep together?
Jessa couldn’t stop smiling. “Ella, we’re heading out. You and Dr. Wilson can keep chatting.”
She glanced up at David. “Let’s go, David.”
David gave Ella a long, searching look. He didn’t say a word and just walked away with Jessa.
Dr. Wilson watched them disappear. “I don’t get it. How does Mr. Harmon have such bad taste? He actually likes Jessa.”
Ella smiled, but didn’t reply. When it came to love, who could really say what made sense? Jessa was clueless, but David still chose her. That just showed how deep his feelings really were.
Dr. Wilson shook his head. “Boss, when Jessa finds out who you really are... that you’re the real boss behind Herbs Life, the CEO of the biggest medical company in the country, she’s going to lose it.”
Ella had no trouble imagining that moment. Jessa’s reaction would be a sight to see.
“Dr. Wilson, let’s leave it for today. My identity needs to stay a secret for now.”
“Yes, boss.”
“I’m heading back.”
“Take care.”
…
Ella got back to Stellaris Apartments. Of course, just as she reached her apartment door, David and Jessa showed up too. The three of them ran into each other again.
Jessa looked absolutely smug. “Ella, are you staying by yourself tonight?”
Ella didn’t answer.
David pressed his lips together, clearly annoyed.
Jessa lost it. She lunged at Ella, hand raised to slap her. “Ella, how dare you talk to David like that? I’m going to shut you up!”
But her hand never landed. David grabbed her wrist, holding her back.
Jessa was stunned. She stared at David in disbelief. “David, she’s insulting you! Why are you stopping me? I need to teach her a lesson!”
David’s eyes were dark and impossible to read. He held onto Jessa’s hand. “Let it go, Jessa. Don’t hurt your hand over this.”
Jessa perked up right away and shot Ella a triumphant smile. “Did you hear that, Ella? David’s worried I’ll hurt my hand.”
Ella gave David a cool look, then turned to Jessa, lips curved in a mocking smile. “Whether or not Mr. Harmon cares about your hand, Jessa, as a woman, you’re really letting yourself down.”
