“This is my house. You’re not welcome here.” Ella’s voice was steady, but David didn’t give her a choice. He pushed the door open and walked right in, long strides eating up the space between them.
Ella frowned, annoyance flickering in her eyes. Honestly, David and Jessa were a perfect pair. Neither of them had any respect for boundaries.
“Mr. Harmon, leave. Now. Or I’ll call security.” She crossed her arms, ready to follow through.
David turned to face her. “Ella, are you hiding something from me?”
“What are you talking about?” she shot back.
His eyes dropped to her stomach, lingering there just a little too long.
He was staring at her belly.
Ella instinctively lifted a hand to protect it. “Mr. Harmon, what are you looking at?”
She was tense, almost like she thought he might actually hurt her or the baby. That look hit David harder than he expected. It stung. She really believed he’d hurt her or Wyatt’s child. That’s why she was so guarded.
“That night at Herbs Life, you messed with the results, didn’t you?”
Ella’s heart skipped a beat. He knew. She’d been prepared for this moment ever since David told her he didn’t want kids and warned her not to cause him trouble. She decided right then not to tell him, thinking she could keep it a secret. But secrets never last. She just didn’t expect the truth to come out now, so suddenly, when she was least prepared.
“Ella, why aren’t you saying anything? You’ve never been the quiet type. Tell me. Are you pregnant? I want to hear you say it.”
Ella looked him in the eye, her voice calm and clear. “Yes. I’m pregnant.”
David let out a short, bitter laugh. Ella couldn’t tell if he was laughing at her or at himself.
She said it loudly, no hesitation at all. David froze.
Ella met his gaze, every word deliberate. “The moment you took Jessa’s side, you became someone with no morals. You even went after Wyatt. Listen to me, David. If anything happens to Wyatt, I will never forgive you.”
So she would never forgive him, just because of Wyatt?
“Ella, is Wyatt really that important to you?”
She nodded without a second thought. “Yes.”
David’s laugh was harsh, full of bitterness. “Right. I almost forgot. You’re carrying Wyatt’s child. Of course he matters to you.”
