The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 549

“I heard Moss finally found his long-lost daughter. David, remember our family has a marriage agreement with the Wades. That means his daughter is your fiancée. Have you met her yet?”

David stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, his tall figure outlined in the dim light. “Mom, that engagement was something you all arranged. I’m not accepting her as my fiancée.”

“David, what are you trying to say?”

“Mom, I’m not going to marry Moss' daughter.”

“What?” Mrs. Harmon’s voice shot up, sharp and incredulous. “David, are you seriously thinking of breaking off the engagement?”

David kept quiet.

Mrs. Harmon pressed on. “David, our families have been close for generations. The Harmons and the Wades’ bond continues through this marriage. That’s how powerful families like ours stay strong. You’re the heir. Don’t you get that?”

David’s features were as sharp as ever, his expression unreadable. He didn’t answer.

Mrs. Harmon’s tone changed, brisk and suspicious. “Is there someone else? David, you can have your fun, but those girls are just flings, understand? Moss' daughter was missing before, but now she’s back. You need to clear the way for her.”

She didn’t give David a chance to respond. “I can overlook your other women, but don’t let things get out of control. If you make a scene, I’ll have to step in.”

She hung up without another word.

Aiden came forward. “Sir, you know what she can do. If she finds out about Ms. Irvine, things will get complicated.”

David’s eyes were dark, cold, impossible to read. No one knew what was going through his mind.

“I know. You can go.”

“Yes, sir.”

Moss hesitated at the mention of her mother.

Peter jumped in quickly. “Jessa, your mother passed away. She died right after you were born.”

Her mom was gone? Jessa barely reacted. What mattered was that she finally had her rich, powerful dad.

She hugged Moss tight. “Dad, since I don’t have a mom, you’ll have to love me twice as much from now on.”

Moss nodded. “Of course, Jessa. I came here this time to take you home, to the Capital.”

The Capital. Just the thought made Jessa’s heart beat faster.

Moss went on. “Jessa, you’re my daughter. You’ve been away from your real family for too long. It’s time to come home. I’ll throw a huge party to celebrate your return and let the whole city know you’re back.”
