He told her he was scared.
Before Ella came into his life, fear wasn't even a word David understood. After her, everything changed.
Watching her faint at the cemetery, David felt his whole world stop. For a moment, he forgot how to breathe.
Ella looked fragile. She was still in the early days of her pregnancy, but the stress and all that had happened left her completely drained.
"I'm fine. I'm a doctor. I know my body better than anyone. I'm really okay."
She tried to slip her hand from his, but David gently tightened his hold.
"Ella, let me stay with you."
She met his eyes, her voice cool and distant. "That’s not necessary. Please go home, Mr. Harmon. We’re divorced. We have nothing to do with each other now. Also, you’re engaged to Jessa. I know how complicated things get among wealthy families, so you should focus on your engagement instead."
"Ella, I’m not going to marry Jessa..."
"Whether you marry her or not has nothing to do with me."
David’s expression was hard to read.
Just then, Lilly and Fiona came in. "Ella, you’re awake!"
David let go of her hand.
Lilly helped Ella sit up. Fiona came over with a bowl of soup. "Ella, you’re pregnant. You need to take care of yourself."
Fiona started feeding her.
Wyatt walked in and looked at Ella. "So, what are you going to do about the Irvine family?"
Ella stayed silent.
Wyatt kept going. "Jessa is Moss’ daughter now. Moss is a legend, built his own empire. Jessa’s his real daughter. You can’t touch her."
David went back to his own apartment. Aiden was waiting for him, speaking quietly. "Sir, there was a call from your family in the Capital."
David had noticed. His phone had rung earlier when he was with Ella. It was a call from the Capital, but he hadn’t picked up.
Now, his phone rang again.
Another call from the Capital.
This time, it was his mother.
David answered. "Hi, Mom."
Mrs. Harmon’s voice came through the line. "David, Moss went to Rockford Bay. Did you see him?"
David pressed his lips together. "I did."
