The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 557

Jessa’s determination was written all over her face, and Moss knew he had to give in. “Alright. If you really want him, I’ll help you. Don’t worry. David will marry you.”

“Really? But it feels like David doesn’t want to marry me at all.”

Moss shook his head. “This engagement isn’t something David can just walk away from. The Harmon family would never let him choose someone else. That spot as Mrs. Harmon belongs to you.”

Jessa’s eyes shined. “That’s amazing. Thank you, Dad.”

Rachel jumped right in. “Mr. Wade, it seems like Mr. Harmon is actually into Ella. Just in case, I think we should do something about it.”

Moss thought it over. “I’ll call David’s mother. If Mrs. Harmon finds out about Ella…”

He didn’t finish his sentence, but Jessa and Rachel both got it.

If Mrs. Harmon knew about Ella, knew she was the reason the Harmon and Wade families’ engagement might fall apart, she would make sure Ella disappeared.

Jessa and Rachel shared a look, their lips curling into matching smiles.

“Dad, you should call Mrs. Harmon right now,” Jessa pressed.

Moss pulled out his phone. “Alright. I’ll call her right now.”

David carried Ella into his Rolls-Royce, with Lilly trailing after them.

Ella looked up at David, concern in her voice. “Mr. Harmon, you shouldn’t have argued with Mr. Wade because of me.”

David’s tone was steady. “Ella, I’m not going to marry Jessa.”

Ella didn’t say a word.

Just then, his phone started ringing, the chime soft and clear.

Lilly watched him through the window. “Ella, have you ever heard of Mrs. Harmon?”

Ella shook her head. “No, I haven’t.”

Lilly lowered her voice, almost whispering. “Mrs. Harmon comes from a really old, powerful family. She had an arranged marriage with David’s dad, who was always in love with someone else. The day Mrs. Harmon was supposed to have David, that other woman called, and Mr. Harmon’s father left her side. Mrs. Harmon broke down during labor and lost a lot of blood. She still managed to give birth to David, but she was left paralyzed.”

Ella was stunned. She never knew David’s family history was like this.

Lilly kept going. “She’s been in a wheelchair ever since, stuck there through all her best years. It just made her more withdrawn over time. She poured all her hopes into David, and she’s always been really strict with him.”

“David’s done everything to make her proud. He always listens to her.”

Ella nodded quietly, watching out the window. David was already on the phone.

She could hear Mrs. Harmon’s voice, cold and direct. “David, Moss just called. He said there’s a girl named Ella with you?”
