The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 568

Rachel lunged at Ella, ready to slap her across the face.

But she never got the chance. A large hand reached out, grabbed Rachel’s wrist, and stopped her cold.

Rachel looked up in shock. Moss had appeared, putting himself right between her and Ella.

He was standing protectively in front of Ella, blocking Rachel’s swing. Rachel’s face fell. She hadn’t expected Moss to take Ella’s side.

As far as Rachel knew, Moss and Ella barely knew each other. Jessa was his daughter, the one lying unconscious upstairs. By all logic, Moss should have been on Jessa’s side, not Ella’s.

Rachel’s mind buzzed with alarm. “Mr. Wade, she poisoned Jessa. She’s the reason Jessa’s still not awake. I just wanted to teach her a lesson.”

Grandma Jill jumped in immediately. “That’s right, Mr. Wade. Ella had the nerve to poison Jessa. If we hadn’t found out in time, Jessa’s life would have been in real danger. She deserves to be punished.”

Ella glanced at the man shielding her. Moss was tall, broad-shouldered, and his presence completely blocked her from Rachel’s view. From where she stood, Ella could see the set of his shoulders, the calm confidence he carried. He gave off a sense of safety that settled deep in her chest.

For a moment, he reminded her of her own father, Jon. He’d had the same wide, reassuring shoulders.

But it had been years since she’d had a father.

While Ella drifted in her memories, Moss let go of Rachel’s wrist with a cold look, making her stumble back a few steps.

Rachel and Grandma Jill exchanged uncertain glances. “Mr. Wade, aren’t you going to punish Ella?”

Moss didn’t even look their way. He turned to Ella instead. “Did you poison Jessa?”

He was actually asking her.

Ella blinked in surprise. She’d expected him to join in with the accusations, to judge her like the rest of the Irvine family. But he hadn’t. He was giving her a chance to speak.

Grandma Jill added, “Mr. Wade, don’t let her sweet talk fool you. Jessa is your real daughter. You need to stand up for her.”

Ella looked at Moss, waiting to see what he would do.

Moss glanced at Ella, then turned his attention to Grandma Jill and Rachel. “Isn’t Ella part of the Irvine family? Why are you both so cold to her, but so devoted to my daughter Jessa? You treat your own daughter like a stranger, and a stranger like your own child.”

The question landed like a stone.

Grandma Jill stiffened. Rachel froze.

Moss fixed his gaze on Rachel, sharp and searching. “Isn’t Ella your biological daughter?”

Rachel’s face went pale. She had no idea what Moss was thinking, but she answered quickly, “Ella is my biological daughter.”
