He knew. Peter had figured it out.

What was she supposed to do now?

Rachel moved closer, her voice trembling with panic. “Honey, it’s not what you think. Ella is my real daughter. Jessa is Mr. Wade’s child.”

Peter’s eyes were blazing with anger. He jabbed a finger at her. “Do you even understand what my life is about? My whole purpose has always been to protect the real heiress. That’s why I never had children of my own. Do you know how much the real heiress means to me?”

“I know, I do, please calm down. Jessa is the heiress, I swear,” Rachel pleaded, reaching for his arm.

“Don’t touch me!”

Peter shoved her away. Rachel stumbled backward, crashing hard into the wall.

“I’m going to find out who the real heiress is. I’m getting a DNA test, right now. I’m telling Mr. Wade and Ella everything. As soon as they do the test with Jessa, the truth will be clear.”

He was determined. He’d go straight to Moss and Ella. He would get the DNA test, no matter what.

Rachel shook her head, feeling ice cold all over. It felt like she was falling into a bottomless pit.

Everything had been going so well today. She’d already switched the blood samples. She was so close to getting away with it.

Then Peter showed up.

She never thought he’d figure it out first.

“Please, don’t go. Don’t tell Mr. Wade. I’m begging you,” Rachel cried.

He needed answers. He had to see Moss and Ella. He had to know the truth.

Rachel suddenly stood up, her voice sharp and loud. “Peter, stop! You want the truth? Fine. I’ll tell you everything.”

Peter stopped and looked at her. “What’s the truth?”

Rachel didn’t bother to hide anymore. All the jealousy and hatred she’d bottled up for years came spilling out. “That’s right. Jessa is my real daughter. Ella is the true heiress. I switched them.”

Peter stared at her, stunned. “Why would you do that?”

“To get back at you. To get back at her,” Rachel spat. Her face twisted with anger. “Peter, I loved you. I killed my own husband, Jon, for you. But all you ever cared about was that woman. Every secretary, every mistress you found, they all looked like her. You made a fool out of my love. How was I supposed to live with that?”

“I knew Ella meant everything to you, so I switched her with Jessa. I made you treat my daughter like your precious treasure. Do you know how happy that made me, all these years? I loved watching you be fooled, loved seeing you run in circles. No one gets to hurt me and just walk away.”
