The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 585

“Yes, Jace.”

The two men in black dragged the middle-aged man away.

Lilly shot Jace a look, then turned to leave.

Jace stretched his long legs and followed right behind her.

She picked up her pace, hoping to shake him off. But he was tall and quick, never more than a step behind.

“Stop following me!”

Lilly burst out of the casino and onto the street, but in her rush, her ankle twisted. She toppled to the ground and just sat there, a little stunned. Could this day get any worse? It felt like every bad thing that could happen was finding its way to her.

While she sat on the pavement, a deep, calm voice sounded above her. “Are you okay?”

She looked up. Jace was there.

On the ground, she had to crane her neck to see him. He was already tall, but from down here, he seemed even taller.

Jace reached out his hand. “Come on, get up.”

He wanted to help her, but she didn’t want to take his hand. Stubbornly, she tried to stand up on her own, but her ankle gave a sharp throb and she couldn’t do it.

Without a word, Jace leaned down, grabbed her arm, and lifted her effortlessly to her feet, like she weighed nothing.

Lilly blinked, still annoyed, but she couldn’t help noticing how strong he was.

Jace met her eyes. “Don’t come here again. This place isn’t for you. I’ll call a cab. Go home.”

He stepped to the curb and flagged down a taxi. When it stopped, he opened the back door. “Get in.”

Lilly stayed where she was. “Jace, aren’t you going to say anything to me?”

She looked up at him, her eyes searching his face. “Jace, why are you even here? You know what kind of place this is, right? You’re smart. You could do anything, make money anywhere. Why are you choosing this?”

Her eyes were full of confusion and disappointment. She really wanted an answer, but Jace just stared at her, silent.

“Jace,” she tried again, “I hate this place. Please, just leave with me. If you need money, I’m terrible at school. You could tutor me. I’ll pay you.”

He gently pried her hand off his sleeve. “Thanks, but no.”

He turned away again.

But the next moment, Lilly wrapped her arms around his waist from behind, hugging him tight.

Jace’s whole body tensed.

Lilly held on, her voice urgent. “Jace, my dad’s okay with us being together. He even said that if we’re together, he’ll let you run our family’s company. I know you wouldn’t want that kind of deal, so let me invest in you instead. I can help you start your own company. E-commerce and social media are huge right now. You’re smart. You could build something incredible. That’s what you should be doing.”
