Mr. Lynch held out a glass of water and some fever medicine. “Allie, come on, take your meds.”
Allie lay in bed, looking exhausted. “Dad, I don’t want to.”
Mr. Lynch gave her a look. “What’s wrong, sweetheart? Jace turned you down?”
Allie shot him a glare. Of course he’d bring that up now. Her heart already hurt enough.
Mr. Lynch just laughed. “Allie, I told you, didn’t I? Jace isn’t someone you can win over. Let it go, honey. Forget him.”
Allie didn’t answer.
“There are so many amazing guys out there,” her dad went on. “I know a bunch of them. I can introduce you. You know what they say, the best way to get over someone is to meet someone new.”
Allie just hugged her comforter tighter, staying silent.
Mr. Lynch set the medicine on her nightstand. “Allie, please take this. I’ll leave you to rest.”
He left the room.
Allie slowly sat up and took her medicine, then lay down again, hoping sleep would make it all go away.
She knew her dad was right. She should just forget about Jace.
He’d never really cared about her, not for real.
He’d said so many cold things. Now there was a new girl by his side.
But as soon as Allie closed her eyes, she saw Jace’s face. No matter how hard she tried, he wouldn’t leave her mind.
She wanted to move on, but she just couldn’t.
Allie grabbed her phone and scrolled through her messages with Jace.
Brandon patted Jace’s shoulder. “Jace, my daughter likes you so much. I know you’ll come to care for her too. Once you’re my son-in-law, you’ll be my successor. And honestly, there’s someone even bigger in this business. I can introduce you.”
Someone even bigger?
Jace already knew who he meant. It’s Skeleton, the notorious drug lord.
It was the whole reason Jace was here, using Brandon as a way to get to Skeleton.
Skeleton was the man who killed his father.
Now Brandon was offering to set up that meeting, but only if Jace agreed to marry Lilian.
Jace didn’t have feelings for her, but it didn’t seem like he had much choice.
“Jace, take your time. Think about whether you want to marry my daughter.”
