Lilian smiled, her lips curling up as she and Jace drank their wedding toast, their arms still linked. The crowd was quick to whistle and shout, “Get a room!” Their laughter echoed through the bar.
Watching it all, Lilly felt like someone was jabbing tiny needles into her heart. Every second hurt more than the last.
He was about to marry Lilian.
He was choosing someone else.
Why was he doing this to her?
Just then, a rich-looking guy at the VIP section called out, “Hey! We’re out of booze over here, hurry it up!”
“Right away,” a server answered, rushing over with a bottle in hand.
Lilly stepped in front of him. “Let me take that. I’ll bring it over.”
The server blinked, confused. “What do you mean?”
She slipped a thick wad of cash into his hand. “I mean this.”
His eyes went wide, then he grinned and handed her the bottle. “No problem. You got it.”
Lilly slid on a mask, took the bottle, and walked over to the VIP booth.
The rich guy gestured at the table. “Set it down right here.”
Lilly nodded. “Sure.”
She placed the bottle on the coffee table. Instantly, the guy’s eyes swept over her, head to toe. Even with her mask on, what little he could see of her face was flawless. Her eyes were wide and shining, and her high ponytail made her look young and fresh. She drew attention like a magnet.
He smirked. “When did they start hiring such cute waitresses? How old are you, sweetheart?”
Their eyes met. Lilly could tell he recognized her.
Lilian pressed him, “Jace, do you know her?”
Lilly stared at him, waiting. Would he admit it? Would he say no?
Jace’s lips pressed into a thin line, his eyes cold and annoyed as he looked at Lilly.
“Jace, why aren’t you answering me? Let me think… I’m sure I’ve seen her before…”
He cut her off, his voice flat. “You’re mistaken. We don’t know her.”
Lilly’s eyelashes trembled. He could really say that, pretending not to know her. Was he really so eager to draw the line now that he had someone else in his arms?
Before she could react, the rich guy reached out and grabbed her wrist. “Come on, sweetheart. Have a drink with us.”
