The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 608

Jace’s eyes were rimmed with red. Lately, he barely came home. He didn’t want his mom or his little sister to know what he was up to, and he didn’t want anyone else finding out about them either. He thought he was keeping them safe.

But today, his mom suddenly got sick.

“Mom, why didn’t you tell me you weren’t feeling well?”

Tiffany smiled gently. “Jace, I haven’t been in pain. Lilly took good care of me. She made sure the doctors gave me the best medicine.”

“Mom, I never wanted to become your burden. I just want you to be happy and safe. If your dad was still here, that’s what he’d want for you too. You know that, right?”

Tiffany never wanted Jace to end up like his father. She had always tried to talk him out of following the same path.

Jace squeezed her hand. “Mom, you don’t have to worry. Things are going to be different this time.”

A tear slipped down Tiffany’s cheek. “My babies.”

Lilly and Victoria moved closer, each holding one of Tiffany’s hands.

Tiffany brought all their hands together. “Kids, I’m leaving now. Don’t be sad. I’m just going to see your dad. He’s been waiting for me all these years. I’m sure he misses me as much as I miss him.”

Lilly’s tears streamed down her face, hitting the bed sheets one after another.

“Jace, I’m leaving Victoria to you. She’s your sister. Take care of her.”

“And Lilly… she’s a good girl. Don’t take her for granted.”

Jace’s voice was thick and shaky. “I know, Mom.”

And here he was, not even able to stay with his mom in her final moments.

If it weren’t for Lilly, he might have missed saying goodbye altogether.

He’d been carrying the weight of the world for so long, with no way to set it down.

The more it crushed him, the more he burned with anger. He wanted revenge.

He looked at Lilly, his voice rough. “Lilly, thank you. For everything.”

There was so much he wanted to say, but the words got stuck. He just felt grateful. She’d walked into his life and never left his side, not even in his darkest hour.

Lilly stepped closer and wrapped her arms around him. She pressed her cheek to his chest, listening to his heartbeat. “You don’t have to thank me. Jace, if you need to cry, just let it out. I know how much this hurts.”
