The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 662

Lilly stood frozen, her mind blank as a car hurtled straight toward her.

In the blink of an eye, a strong arm reached out, catching her around the waist and yanking her out of harm’s way. She tumbled into a warm, solid chest just as the car sped past, missing her by inches.

Her heart was pounding. Lilly looked up, breathless, at the man holding her.

It was him!

The man with the mask. The one she’d been searching for. Somehow, he was here, right in front of her.

He’d found her again.

“It’s you,” she said, voice barely above a whisper.

He let her go. His voice was low, almost cold. “You were looking for me?”

Lilly nodded. “Yeah.”

“Next time, pay attention to where you’re walking.”

He turned as if to leave.

Lilly hurried after him. “Wait. Who are you? We’ve met before, haven’t we?”

He didn’t even look back. “I don’t know you.”

Lilly refused to believe that. “If you don’t know me, then why did you save me? You helped me twice today.”

Once from those men in black. Now from the car.

“It was nothing,” he replied, his tone flat. “Just happened to be there.”

She shook her head. “I don’t believe that. We know each other. I’m sure of it.”

He glanced at her. “Do I remind you of someone you love?”

The question caught her off guard. Her eyelashes fluttered. “Someone I used to love.”

He went quiet for a moment. “Oh.”

That was it. Just one word.

Lilly’s eyes lit up. She stepped closer, reaching out slowly. Her fingers brushed against the mask, confident in her gut feeling. She just knew he had to be Jace. A woman’s intuition never lied.

She tugged the mask down.

The face beneath was covered in scars, twisted and unrecognizable. It wasn’t Jace’s sharp, handsome features. This face was ruined. Shocking. Almost frightening.

Lilly recoiled, her hand flying back as she took a couple steps away, putting distance between them.

He watched her reaction, his eyes unreadable. Then he pulled the mask back up, hiding his face again. “You see now? I’m not who you thought I was.”

Lilly shook her head, her voice small. “No... I’m sorry. I made a mistake.”

“It’s alright. You should go home.”

She hesitated, then said softly, “Thank you for today. Really.”

“You are welcome.”

He turned and walked away, leaving her standing there under the streetlight, confusion and regret swirling in her heart.
