David swallowed hard. His little troublemaker was back.
He tightened his grip on Ella's soft waist. “You’ve got a huge appetite tonight. Think you can handle all of this?”
Ella looked him up and down, taking in the man who was easily the most handsome and powerful in the whole city. So full of himself. She wrapped her arms around his neck and grinned. “Guess we’ll have to see, won’t we?”
…
Some time later, David carried her to the bed, both of them spent. Ella felt like her body had melted. She barely had the energy to move.
Lola was curled up on the other side of the bed, her little face soft and rosy, looking like the sweetest peach just waiting for a bite. Ella hugged her close and kissed her gently.
David came out of the shower and slipped into bed next to them, pulling Ella into his arms.
She shot him a look. “You’re not sleeping here. Go find another bed.”
David just pinched her cheek. “Really? Because you weren’t complaining when you were on top of me a minute ago.”
Ella rolled her eyes and shoved at him. “Get lost.”
“Not a chance. I’m sleeping right here, with my wife and my daughter.”
Now it was Lola on one side, Ella in the middle, and David on the other. He looked at the two of them and felt his heart completely full, like it finally made sense.
He’d waited so long for this.
“I’m not your wife. Stop making things up,” Ella huffed.
David just smiled, lips curving. “You are my wife. You belong to me.”
“You’re shameless. Let me go.”
The next morning, Ella was woken up by excited clapping. She blinked her eyes open to see Lola sitting up, wide awake, her big dark eyes shining.
“Wow! Mommy and Mr. Harmon are sleeping together!”
Ella realized she was still tangled up in David’s arms. Her cheeks instantly turned pink. She tried to get up. “Lola…”
David just tightened his hold with a smile. “Lola, you should call me something else now. I’m your daddy.”
Lola’s eyes went round with wonder. “You are my daddy? Mommy, is it true?”
Ella didn’t want to hide it anymore. She nodded. “Yes, Lola. He’s your daddy.”
Lola squealed, bouncing a little. “Yay! I have a daddy! I love having a good-looking daddy! Mommy, Daddy, and Lola—let’s always be together, okay? No more goodbyes!”
David pulled her in for a hug and kissed her sweet cheek. “That’s right. Today, Mommy and Daddy are going to get our marriage certificate. From now on, we’ll be a real family, and nothing will ever pull us apart.”
