Mrs. Harmon froze, her face full of shock. Wait, what? Who did Lola just say her dad was?
She wondered if she’d heard that wrong.
“Lola, what did you say? Who’s your daddy?”
Lola answered in her soft, milky voice, “Grandma, Mr. Harmon is my daddy. That means you’re my real grandma.”
Mrs. Harmon was completely stunned.
At that moment, David and Ella stepped out. David said, “Mom, you heard right. Lola is my biological daughter.”
“What? Can someone please explain what’s happening?” Mrs. Harmon was still in disbelief.
David handed her a folder. “Mom, look at this.” He passed her the DNA test results.
Her hands trembled as she opened it. The result was clear. Lola really was David’s daughter.
No wonder she’d always felt so drawn to the little girl. Lola was truly her granddaughter.
“Mom, a lot happened between Ella and me. I really hurt her back then. And Wyatt wasn’t Ella’s boyfriend. He’s her friend.”
“I know about the engagement between our family and the Wades. Yesterday, I went to their house and ended it myself. I’m not marrying the Wade heiress. I want to marry Ella.”
“Lola is my daughter. I want to give her a real family and take care of both Ella and Lola from now on. I hope you’ll support me.”
Mrs. Harmon’s eyes filled with tears. “I used to want David to marry Jessa. She’s Joanna’s only daughter, and our families have had this arrangement since they were kids. But as I got to know Jessa, I saw how selfish and spoiled she is. And you, Ella… you’re smart and kind. My opinion of you completely changed. Now, I really hope you’ll become my daughter-in-law.”
Ella was surprised. She never thought Mrs. Harmon would take her side.
“Ella, thank you for bringing Lola into our family. We love her so much. Please, give my son another chance. I’ve seen how much he cares about you these past years. He really loves you. Marry him. I’ll help with the kids, so you two can focus on each other and do what makes you happy.”
David was touched. “Mom, you’re not like I imagined at all.”
Mrs. Harmon gave him a playful look. “Did you both think I was just some stubborn old lady? I know how to tell right from wrong.”
Lola grinned and gave Mrs. Harmon a big thumbs up. “Grandma, you’re amazing!”
