Hanna shook her head. “I’ll go up on my own. And hey, Jason’s been swamped lately. Don’t bother him with little things, okay? Like, you don’t need to tell him someone just came looking for him.”

The receptionist nodded right away. “Got it, Hanna.”

Hanna reached into her bag and pulled out a brand-new lipstick. “I just bought this. I think the color would look amazing on you. Take it.”

The receptionist’s eyes sparkled as she took the lipstick, grinning. “Thank you, Hanna! If you ever need anything, just ask.”

Back at the Lynch family house, Lilly had barely stepped inside when May hurried over and took her hand. “Lilly, where did you run off to?”

“Mom, I went to see Jason.”

“And? What did he say?”

Lilly’s voice was quiet. “I didn’t see him. He didn’t want to meet me.”

May’s face fell. “Lilly, if he’s treating you like this, you really need to let him go. Oh, and the Lee family called earlier. Roger heard about everything that happened and wanted to know if you needed help.”

Roger was offering to help now, of all times. If he was reaching out, he probably had some way to fix things. But if she accepted, it would mean marrying him.

Lilly shook her head. “No, Mom. I don’t need Roger’s help. Is Dad still out looking for people? I’ll go with him.”

Before May could say anything else, Lilly darted out the door.
