Jason stopped in his tracks. “Victoria?”

“Jace!” Her voice cracked as she called out, then she was running, all but flying into his arms. He caught her, holding her tight, and suddenly she was crying, face buried in his chest.

“Jason, is it really you? I knew it was you that day, I just knew it. Why didn’t you say something?” He just hugged her closer. He had no idea if his face would scare her now, and a part of him wished he could stay the same in her memory, the way he was for Lilly and Victoria before everything changed. He never wanted them to see him like this, never wanted their memories to be replaced by the man he’d become.

“Where have you been for three years? Why didn’t you come home? Lilly and I missed you so much. Didn’t you even think about us?” Victoria’s voice cracked again, and she shook in his arms.

He pressed his cheek to her hair. “Of course I thought about you. I missed you both every single day, Victoria. Every day.”

His parents were gone now. All he had left in the world was Lilly, the girl he loved, and Victoria, his sister. They were the two people he could never give up, the two people who were in his blood.

Hanna was frozen a few feet away, looking like she’d just been struck by lightning. She couldn’t make sense of anything. Victoria was Jason’s sister? She hadn’t seen that coming at all. This was a disaster.

Frank, on the other hand, was grinning ear to ear. “Come on, Victoria, no more tears. This is a good day. Look, the two of you are finally back together.”

Jason wiped the tears from Victoria’s cheeks, smiling gently. “You’re all grown up now. Crying doesn’t suit you, you know.”

Victoria tried to laugh, sniffled, and finally wiped her own eyes. “I almost didn’t get to see you today!”

Jason’s brow furrowed. “What do you mean?”

She spun to glare at the receptionist. “She wouldn’t let me in to see you. Can you believe it? A receptionist, acting like she owns the place, kissing up to whoever walks by instead of doing her job.”

The receptionist went pale, legs shaking. Learning Victoria was Jason’s sister, she realized she was in serious trouble. She’d just picked a fight with the boss’ sister.
