“Yes, Mr. Farill.”
“I’ll ride up front,” Victoria said. “You and Lilly can sit in the back, Jason.”
She slid into the front passenger seat, leaving plenty of space in the back for her brother and Lilly.
Lilly knew exactly what Victoria was up to. Before she could say anything, Jason swung open the back door and smiled. “Hop in.”
Lilly climbed into the back, and Jason got in right after her, settling in close. He shut the door behind them.
The car glided smoothly onto the road, city lights streaking past. Victoria glanced back. “Are you going home or to the office, Jason?”
“I’m heading to the office,” he answered. “You two going home?”
Victoria turned to Lilly. “Should we head back now?”
Lilly felt Jason’s eyes on her. Her cheeks warmed as she answered quickly, “Yeah… let’s go home.”
The driver took a sharp turn. Lilly lost her balance and tipped sideways.
Before she could react, a strong arm caught her around the waist, holding her steady. Jason’s hand was warm and sure, anchoring her gently against him.
She looked up and found his dark, steady gaze on her. Her heart skipped a beat.
As the car straightened out, Lilly quickly sat back up, putting a little distance between them. The heat in her cheeks slowly faded.
Jason suddenly spoke up. “Kent, didn’t you say you needed something from the supermarket?”
Kent hesitated. “Sir, I… did I? I don’t think—”
Jason caught his eye in the rearview mirror, a silent message passing between them.
“I’m not,” she protested, avoiding his eyes.
He studied her face, the city lights reflecting in her eyes and making her look even more beautiful. He smiled, a little softer this time. “Don’t go home tonight. Stay with me.”
Lilly’s eyes widened. “What… what do you mean?”
“Come to my office. Stay with me tonight. Lilly, it’s time you kept your promise.”
She pressed her hands against his chest, trying to steady herself. “Mr. Farill, I… mmm—”
Jason leaned down and caught her lips in a kiss.
The world went quiet. His kiss was deep and insistent, and his familiar, clean scent surrounded her, making her knees go weak and her mind go blank.
