Jill didn’t even try to hide it. “You really are sharp, Lilly. Yeah, I bought the Frost Orchid. The one you need is right here with me. So, what do you say? Want to come out and talk?”
Lilly let out a cold laugh. “Just wait. I’m coming now.”
She ended the call and glanced toward the bathroom, where the sound of running water told her Jason was still showering. Grabbing a pen, she scribbled a quick note: Jason, I’m heading out to get some food. I’ll be back soon.
She set the note on the table and slipped out of the room.
Jill was easy to find, standing in the hallway like she’d been waiting for her. Lilly walked straight up.
“Jill, you’ve been following us, haven’t you? You know exactly where we are and what we’re doing.”
Jill’s lips curled into a smug smile. “Of course. Otherwise, how could I have gotten the Frost Orchid before you did?”
“Where is it?” Lilly asked, cutting to the chase.
Jill pulled out a small box and opened it, revealing the pristine white Frost Orchid inside.
Without thinking, Lilly stepped forward. “Give it to me!”
Jill just handed the box to the bodyguard behind her. He took it and walked away.
Jill looked back at Lilly, her smile never fading. “See? I told you I had it. No tricks.”
She turned to leave, but Lilly grabbed her arm. “Wait.”
Jill turned slowly, meeting Lilly’s eyes. “There’s nothing to discuss, unless you’re willing to walk away from Jason for good. That’s the only way you’re getting the Frost Orchid.”
Lilly’s heart pounded. She and Jason had just promised to get married. She couldn’t imagine letting him go. But without the Frost Orchid, Jason’s face would never heal.
Jill laughed softly. “You say you love Jason, but is this what love looks like? You’re being selfish. You’d rather keep him by your side, even if it means he has to live with that face forever. For three years, he hasn’t even looked at himself in the mirror. He can’t accept the way he looks. You actually have a way to save him, but you’d rather keep him all to yourself.”
Lilly’s eyes stung. “It’s not like that.”
Jill stepped closer. “Then let’s make a deal. I’ll give you the Frost Orchid to save him, and you give him to me.”
