The Golden Lycans (Ella) novel Chapter 10

Full Disclosure-Part 2

*Ella***

“I would say…that I think that’s probably true,” I reply quietly. He suddenly claps his hands, makingme jump.

“Where are my manners! Goodness me, I do apologise, would you like a drink?” he asks, suddenly getting up and opening a cabinet on the wall. I am a little taken aback.

“Umm, sure?” I answer hastily. I am a little surprised by his offer, but I am now wondering what sort of drink he is about to offer me. He busies himself with some clinking of glasses and puts down a glass filled with a golden liquid. I look up at him, also holding a glass of the same. I look back at the glass and hesitate.

“Trust me Eliana, it is quite safe,” he says, obviously sensing my initial reluctance. I take a sip and a warm, delicious, soothing liquid snakes it’s way down my throat. It warms me all the way down. I can’t identify the taste, but it is probably one of the best drinks I have ever tasted.

“Good?” he asks curiously. I nod enthusiastically.

“Oh my word, that’s so good,” I laugh, taking another large mouthful…and another, each mouthful tasting better than the last. He looks like he is considering something, and then he looks immensely satisfied, putting his own glass down. I finish the drink entirely in seconds and put my empty glass down.

“Excellent. Now, about this college,” he says, taking his seat again, “it is no ordinary school, because it is a school mainly for the supernatural.”

I hiccup in surprise, but he continues.

“This school currently has a population of mainly Lycans, witches and warlocks. Every now and then we have had dwarves, elves and a few other lesser known species. More recently we had the hybrid daughter of a banshee, who I believe is a world famous opera singer,” he adds. I sit there silently, trying to process what he is telling me.

“I am sure you are thinking right now, what about humans? Where do / fit in to all of this?” he asks, eyeing me curiously.

“The thought has crossed my mind. Obviously there has been a bit of a mistake; am I going to be expelled?” Landry laughs deeply at my comment and shakes his head, causing me to fall silent once more.

“We have many humans here also. Genetics plays a key role in the lives of the supernatural just as

Claud much as it does with any living creature. It is entirely possible for a human to be born to Lycan parents, for example. They are still very much a part of our community, but they are for all intents and purposes, human. We do have a large number of pure blooded humans enrolled, but they neve

r find out the true purpose of the school.”

“So…where do I fit in here? I mean the book I just saw in the library was pretty obvious. Clearly this human has found out and I’ve been here just ten days,” I ask. Landry points to me and looks contemplative.

“That is the key question here. What I am sure of, is that what you are isn’t something we have ever had at this school before. Whatever you are, I have never smelled before and that is usually the giveaway.”

“I’m sorry, you can smell me?” I ask, assuredly sounding and looking rather appalled. Landry laughs once again.

“Rest assured Eliana, in actuality you smell just fine. I believe my grandson suggested that you smelled like a meadow on a summers day,” he chuckles. I immediately blush and clear my throat at the idea. It was strange to think that Austin had smelled me, let alone labelled it and then spoken to his grandfather about it. I suddenly feel rather embarrassed, and must’ve looked as such as Landry

quickly speaks again.

“Perhaps I ought to have kept that to myself,” he muses quietly, “regardless, the end result is the same. You, Eliana, are neither Lycan nor witch like the majority of this school, but you are also not human. What you are, remains to be discovered.”

There is such a finality in his voice, that I believe him for a short moment. But that was impossible, of course I was human. What an absurd thing to suggest to someone…

“Well, you’re wrong, I am human… I am not ‘supernatural’. I’m sorry but you must be mistaken. Why are you talking about ‘what’ I am when I am human?” I ask passionately, shaking my head in disbelief.

Landry just smiles at me, now leaning forward in his chair as if he’d expected this reaction from me all along.

“This school and our three sister schools, are affiliated with some incredibly gifted covens. There are a series of very powerful enchantments placed on the schools to prevent obvious exposure to the human world. These enchantments are complex and have never failed. There are features of this school that look a certain way to the general supernatural population, but another way to the human.”

I frowned at this as I try to understand what he was saying.

“So…you’re saying that a human sees the school differently to everyone else?” I ask. He nods.

“Precisely. I had no idea how you perceived the school until one of the librarians saw you pick a book of Lycan History off the shelf earlier today, something a pure blooded human would not have been able to do,” Landry replies.
