Full Disclosure-Part 3
*Austin***
Ella turns around as she stands there waiting for the lift to open.
“Tell me, Austin, is it your grandfather I’m about to see, or is it your great, great, great, GREAT grandfather?” she boldly calls out to me, before she turns around again and enters the lift to go up to my grandfather’s office.
My expression had definitely turned to great surprise as her words sank in. With the way she was
looking at me right before the lift doors shut, I just knew…she knew.
She knew what I was.
This was not good.
I take my phone out of my pocket and send Freya a quick text, as I figure she will need to know about this. I wished I could mindlink my grandfather right now and find out for sure what was going on. Sadly, only he could mind link me while at school.
Unable to do much else, I go back to my room. I have just changed into my gym gear when Ollie returns.
“Score one for the janitorial cupboard down the humanities corridor! Although a bit small and a tad smelly, the shelving is the perfect height for me to really hit that good spot,” Ollie says salaciously as he flings himself down onto one of the sofas.
I say nothing as I continue to lace up my trainers. This was not an uncommon thing for him to say, really.
“What…no laugh, no comment, no judgement from Atlas?” Ollie asks in surprise, sitting up. I look at him and shake my head.
“Okay, what’s going on?” he asks, looking concerned.
“I’m pretty sure Freya’s roommate has figured it out,” I reply, frowning as I think back to her strange 1 expression as she turned around to face me from inside the lift. She had looked anxious, a little fearful, but it was like she’d really seen me, just then.
But…I didn’t want her to be afraid of me…
“How is that possible unless someone told her? The enchantments have never failed on the humans and the penalty the Council would put on someone telling a human is not worth it,” Ollie says, looking perturbed himself. I shake my head.
“I don’t know. Why would anyone tell her? They wouldn’t…no one ever has before. No…” I begin, looking at Ollie oddly now, “I am starting to wonder if she’s actually human at all. The enchantments-don’t hide anything from the supernatural.”
Ollie looks surprised at my comment.
“How could she be supernatural? She smells human to me,” he replies with a shrug.
“Not to me and Freya. Plus she is insanely fast,” I said. Ollie rolls his eyes.
Claim
“Goddess, you really need to let that go, man,” Ollie says with a pitiful laugh, “accept that you need to step up your cardio and move on from the fact a skinny blonde girl left Atlas in her dust.”
I scowl at him.
“But, if you’re right and she isn’t human…I guess that makes her fair game. Janitor closet here we come…and so will she,” Ollie announces happily with a grin. A low and entirely involuntary growl comes out my throat at his comment, surprising us both.
“NO, she’s Freya’s roommate, she’s off limits,” I say, a little more fiercely than I’d intended. Ollie stares at me for a moment and looks like he is about to say something, but instead he shrugs and shakes his head.
“Whatever man, let’s get down to the gym. You owe me and your pitiful pectoral muscles around four hundred push ups.”
***Ella***
I leave the headmaster’s office with my brain feeling rather confused and very full. I had so many questions and I also had concerns.
I don’t go back to the room immediately, instead opting for a walk around the grounds. I wasn’t sure what to do right now.
Should I tell Freya that I know? I thought.
I wasn’t sure how to interact with her now. I wonder if Austin might’ve told her something.
Was I really not human?
If I wasn’t, what was I?
I wander around outside for half an hour before deciding to return to the room.
