The Golden Lycans (Ella) novel Chapter 26

The Longest Week-Part 1

*Ella***

It was still only Wednesday, and it had already felt like the longest week that I had ever experienced.

I was reminded of the times I had looked forward to going on holiday when I was younger, or the week before Christmas; how the week ahead always seemed to drag before you were going to do something exciting. My ‘something exciting’ happened to be a date with arguably the kindest and most handsome guy at school. He might have said in the gazebo that he was the lucky one…something I still couldn’t get over; but that award was definitely going to me.

How did the shy science girl with zero charm and maximum social awkwardness, manage to get so lucky?

It had been unseasonably warm since the weekend, so I had been getting out daily for a good, long run. This morning, however, I was heading down to the sports hall for my midweek combat class. Thankfully, classes had recently been moved forward an hour since the clocks had changed. Neither Freya nor Annabelle were coming today, but I had talked myself into going on my own for the first time.

There were only five other people there this morning when I arrive, but I get onto a floor mat and start doing my stretches. This class was led by Chase and they were secretly my favourite. His classes were all about attack rather than Austin’s defensive classes. I enjoyed these more than my defense classes because I found them exhilarating, and I enjoyed seeing what my body was capable of doing with the right technique.

Chase is busy setting up some combat dummies for us all, when a dark-haired guy I’d never seen before sits down opposite me on my mat.

“Good morning…I’m Cassian, but everyone calls me Cass,” he says boldly, staring at me while he stretches his muscled arms behind his back. I’d not met him yet, but I had already heard about him before, as Freya had directed many of the thirsty sixth-form girls toward him rather than Austin. I also knew that he was the only other heir to a pack at this school.

“Uh, hi, I’m-”

“Ella, yes, I know exactly who you are,” he interrupts before casually starting to do one-handed press-up. I look around the hall awkwardly.

“Morning everyone, pair up by a dummy and grab some gloves,” Chase’s deep voice bellows around the hall.

“Your friend isn’t here today, so I guess you can be with me,” Cassian winks at me, suddenly stepping into my personal space a little. I immediately lean back away from him, as he was not giving me the best first impression. If anything, I found him creepy.

“Great…” I reply dispassionately, stepping away from him to grab a pair of gloves from the box.

“Don’t get too close, or I may just end up hitting you by accident,” I shrug innocently. By the excited look on his face, he clearly thinks I am flirting, but I am really, really not. Cassian positions himself behind the dummy to support it as I start throwing some punches to it. I had been getting pretty good at them, and it was great for letting out my frustrations, which I had built up a fair few of over the past few weeks.

“Ohhh yes, Ella, show me some fire,” he goads, peering out to the side from behind the dummy. I was starting to find this guy seriously irritating. I throw a few more punches to the dummy, knocking it back again and again, before then I spin around on the spot, booting it squarely in the face with my right foot. Cassian looks both impressed and a little enthralled by my attack. I feel more than a little sullied by the way he looks at me afterward.

“Wow, you definitely have some frustrations you need to work out, Ella,” Chase says, coming over and nodding his approval while chuckling.
