Tracy glanced at the president's office. She gritted her teeth as she stepped into the elevator. After heading down, she got in her car and drove straight to Tessa's place.
20 minutes later, a car pulled into Sagewood Residences. On a villa's front lawn, two maintenance office staff members argued with Jennifer.
With a troubled look, a man in a white short-sleeve shirt said, "I'm just doing my job, Mrs. Sanders. Don't make it hard for me. Everyone else has already paid the parking fee. It's only your family that hasn't."
Jennifer glared at the staff. "I'm just an old woman. I don't have money. You won't get anything from me. Just wait for my daughter to come back."
The man in the white short-sleeve shirt frowned. "The number you gave me isn't working, Mrs. Sanders. I haven't seen Ms. Sanders in over a month. Even if she doesn't come back, I still have to collect the fee."
Jennifer suddenly thought about Matthew and suggested with a smile, "You know my son-in-law, right? He lives in Silverbrook Village. How about I give you his address? Go ahead and ask him for the fee."
The man with a white short-sleeve shirt shook his head. "Ms. Sanders has already divorced him. If I ask him for the parking fee, he'll probably throw me out."
Jennifer shrugged. "I can't help it. Anyway, I can't pay for it."
The man sported a cold look. "You're making things difficult for me, Mrs. Sanders. If that's how it is, forget about your water and electricity."
Jennifer was about to say something when she saw Tracy walking over. She immediately had an idea and approached Tracy with a smile.
"You're here to see Tessa, aren't you?"
Tracy had visited a few times and had even asked Jennifer for Tessa's number, so they kind of knew each other.
Smiling, Tracy asked, "Has Tessa come back lately, Mrs. Sanders?"
Jennifer replied with a grin, "You and Tessa must be pretty close, right? Not many drop by to see her, so you must be her bestie."
Jennifer navigated through her phone and transferred the payment via Venmo.
After the staff members from the management office left, she slid her phone into her pocket and turned to Tracy. "Are you looking for Tessa?"
Tracy thought Jennifer would give her back the remaining 13 thousand dollars, but when she saw Jennifer putting away the phone, she knew she wasn't getting it back.
She held back her frustration and nodded. "I have an urgent matter with Tessa. Can you help me reach her?"
Jennifer shook her head. "I can't get in touch with Tessa either. How about you head back first? When she comes home, I'll get her to call you."
At that moment, Tracy felt like she'd been played for a fool. After lending the money, she still couldn't get in with Tessa. Worse yet, Jennifer rushed her to leave.
