"Stop teasing me!" Rachel's playful, shy voice came through the phone.
Tracy rolled her eyes, secretly jealous of how intimate Matthew was with Rachel.
"She just told you to stop. That's how much you mean to her," she whispered mockingly, her voice barely audible.
Matthew's lips curled into a mischievous smile as he kept his eyes on Tracy while speaking into the phone. "It's been so long since I've seen you. I was planning to come visit, but if that's how you feel, maybe I shouldn't."
There was silence on the other end, and Tracy whispered again, "Don't bother going. She doesn't really miss you."
Just as Matthew opened his mouth to respond, Rachel's voice cut through the silence. "Matthew, I do miss you. You have to come. I miss you so much… every part of me misses you."
Her voice grew increasingly softer, filled with an intimate warmth that made the air feel electric.
Tracy's face fell as if she'd been slapped. She could not believe this was the same Rachel who was usually so cold around men, speaking such intimate words.
"I'll be right there," Matthew said before hanging up. He waved his phone at Tracy. "Hear that? She misses me; every part of her misses me. Stop living in a fantasy."
Tracy stood there, feeling as if her heart had been stabbed thousands of times by Rachel's words. The pain left her speechless and weak.
"Tracy, are you even clear about your own identity?" Matthew asked coldly.
Tracy bristled and snapped, "What does it matter to you? This isn't the 1950s. No one cares about that anymore."
