With all his cards exposed by Mikael, Leander slumped into a beach chair. He shouted, "Bring me a woman! Wait—bring me ten! Right now!"
Mikael's lips curled into a satisfied smirk as he spoke into his smartwatch. "Send over ten girls right away—our guest is getting impatient."
...
Meanwhile, Tessa sat in her apartment in Lambda City, replaying her phone conversation with Matthew several times.
After confirming that the recording contained no suspicious details, she found Leander's contact information and left him a voice message.
"Mr. Farburg, I have terrible news. As you know, I've been wearing the mechanical exoskeleton constantly—while running, walking, even sleeping —trying to achieve perfect integration.
"When I went home for the short break, I kept it on under my clothes, thinking no one would notice. But then I ran into my ex-husband."
She continued her message, her voice trembling slightly. "He's crazy, did time in prison, and has been obsessed with getting custody of our child. I finally gave in about the kid, but he still won't leave me alone, demanding we get back together.
"When he saw me, he grabbed me and refused to let me go. I wanted to call the police, but before I could, he got violent. I couldn't fight back because the exoskeleton would have killed him, and its existence would have been exposed.
"So, I just endured it. He knocked me unconscious, and when I came to, the suit was gone."
She added, "Mr. Farburg, I even recorded a conversation where I tried to get the exoskeleton back, but he refused. You need to return as soon as possible. Bring backup. We have to get it back from him."
After recording the message, Tessa listened to it again to ensure it sounded convincing. She sent it to Leander and anxiously waited for his response, knowing how crucial the exoskeleton was to him.
The project had consumed years of investment money, even forcing him to mortgage his properties, and finding a willing test subject had been nearly impossible until she came along.
Zachary snorted. "Get out of here. If your luck were that good, you wouldn't be working security!"
After the guard left, Zachary took his position, watching every car that stopped and each person who stepped out.
As time passed and disappointment mounted, he felt the heat intensifying, his uniform soaked with sweat and clinging uncomfortably to his back.
He reached for his radio. "Owen, you must be cooled off by now. Come back and—" He suddenly stopped mid-sentence, his eyes fixed on an approaching figure. "He's... he's here!"
"Captain, who's here?" Owen Lerman's confused voice crackled through the radio.
However, Zachary was already jogging toward the visitor, his face lighting up. "Matt, you finally made it! I've improved so much. I think I'm ready now!"
