The Healing Avenger novel Chapter 372

Wilbur found a small, unoccupied private room for Finnegan and Madison.

He also served them a bottle of premium red wine and some snacks.

“Finnegan, why won't you look at me?”

When Madison saw Finnegan snacking away, she expressed her displeasure.

“It's not that. I haven't tasted this snack before,” Finnegan quickly replied, appearing somewhat nervous.

To mask his embarrassment, he took the red wine bottle under the pretense of opening it.

His anxiety naturally didn't escape Madison's notice.

However, she didn't point it out directly. “I've been asking about you through Casper and Rhiannon. Aren't you going to ask how I've been these past five years?”‘

Pop!

As Finnegan uncorked the red wine, he casually asked, “So, how have you been these past few years?”

Throwing a resentful glance at Finnegan, Madison took the red wine from his hand and poured it into the decanter. “I was admitted to Durbaine University, and then I moved to Durbaine with my mother. After graduation, I joined a company. My life hasn't been overly exciting, but I wouldn't call it boring either.”

“That's great!” Finnegan replied, then found himself at a loss for words.

“Don't you have anything to say to me?” Madison asked.

Finnegan evaded Madison's gaze. “We haven't seen each other for a few years. I'm somewhat at a loss for conversation topics.”

Muttering “fool” under her breath, Madison poured two glasses of wine from the decanter.

After handing one of the glasses to Finnegan, she raised her own and said, “Since we're at a loss for conversation topics, let me start by thanking you. Thank you for helping me become a successful woman!”

Due to growing up in a single-parent household, Madison developed a distaste for school and a rebellious streak during her high school years.

Among the more than six hundred students in her grade, her grades never made it into the top five hundred, which at one point caused her mother to worry and shed tears for her.

It was after Finnegan accidentally discovered her family situation that he guided her, helping her catch up on her schoolwork. This led to the changes that occurred in her life later on.

One could say that if it weren't for Finnegan, even if she hadn't ended up as a street urchin, she would have dropped out of school to work at an early age.

They would not even be talking about her getting admitted to Durbaine University at all.

However, this matter was their secret, known to only a few.

Finnegan said, “I only tutored you for two semesters. Your subsequent excellence was all due to your own efforts. I didn't have much to do with it.”

“It wasn't for you, I wouldn't even have had the opportunity to excel.”

With a gentle smile, Madison brought the wine glass to her lips.

The deep crimson red of the wine, paired with her red lips, created a unique allure.

Finnegan knowingly averted his gaze and took a sip of wine, his mind preoccupied with finding a reason to leave promptly.

Meanwhile, Madison had drained her glass of wine in one gulp.

She asked another question. “About you only tutoring me for two semesters, I want to know why you stopped tutoring me afterward. Why did you even go out of your way to avoid me whenever you saw me from afar?”

Finnegan was momentarily at a loss for words.

Aren't you asking the obvious? Wasn't your sudden love letter that scared me off? At that time, was I not solely focused on my studies?

Obviously, Finnegan wouldn't say that out loud. “At that time, your grades were already steadily improving, so you didn't need my help anymore. It's not like I went out of my way to avoid you. I genuinely didn't see you.”

A hint of amusement flashed in her eyes as Madison asked, “If I hadn't fallen ill during the final year of high school, would you have come to see me later?”

Upon hearing this, Finnegan's face instantly turned red.

Could she possibly still remember and took it seriously?

Madison nodded slightly. “Mmm-hmm, we should be getting married in the next couple of years.”

“Why didn't you say so earlier!” Finnegan exclaimed, as if a huge weight had been lifted off his chest. “If I had known you were engaged, I would have agreed to have dinner with you that day.”

“I can't believe it.” Madison playfully slapped him, laughing. “So, you've been avoiding me because you're afraid I'll hold you to your initial promise. Am I really that bad?”

Finnegan remarked, “From what I recall, you weren't as shapely back then, your skin wasn't as fair, and your figure wasn't as impressive. Indeed, there's a discernible difference.”

Madison's mouth hung slightly open, staring at Finnegan as if she was looking at a monster.

Upon seeing this, Finnegan touched his face. “Is there something on my face?”

“Are you really Finnegan?”

In Madison's memory, Finnegan was an exceptional student who excelled in academia and was well-behaved. He was not one for jokes and even blushed uncomfortably when she teased him.

But now, there was something different about Finnegan, he had surprisingly learned how to tell jokes.

Finnegan regained his senses and clinked glasses with her. “People must always grow and change. Only in this way can we adapt to our environment and survive.”

“Indeed!”

Taking a sip, Finnegan asked, “By the way, Rhia and Casper must have mentioned my fiancée to you. What kind of person is your fiancé? He must be outstanding, right? Otherwise, he wouldn't be worthy of you.”

However, when Finnegan mentioned her fiancé, Madison's face instantly darkened. “I don't know.”

Finnegan was taken aback. “It wasn't arranged by your mother, was it?”

It was just like Sawyer arranging five marriages for him without any notice, leaving him with five fiancées.

Madison shook her head. “It's not my mother, it's...”

While they were speaking, a faint commotion suddenly came from outside, accompanied by a woman's vicious voice. “This is Mr. Christopher. Countless women would kill for the chance to be with him, even if it meant throwing themselves at him. Moreover, the reason I gave you an opportunity in the first place was so that I could use you one day, so you had better know what's good for you.”
