The next morning, not long after Bernice had finished her breakfast and left, a car raced into Dragon Bay.
After bringing the car to a smooth halt with a swerve, Cindy stepped out, her teeth gritted in anger.
Finnegan was about to take a bath to wash off the sweat from his training, so he was surprised to see her. “If you're looking for Bernie, she just left.”
“I'm looking for you!”
“Looking for me?”
Finnegan looked at her strangely.
“Cut the crap, let's talk in your room.” With a snort, Cindy walked past him, leaving Finnegan bewildered.
In the room, Cindy turned around, raised her hand, and slapped Finnegan. “Jerk, you jerk!”
Huh? What's going on?
Finnegan hastily stepped back to avoid her. “You're not still drunk, are you?”
Tears welled up in Cindy's eyes immediately. “Finnegan, you beast, you b*stard!”
At this point, Finnegan was somewhat bewildered. “What are you talking about?”
Tears streamed down Cindy's face. “I drank with you last night because I trusted you. I believed that even if I drank too much, you wouldn't harm me. But look at what you've done! You've taken my virginity which I've preserved for twenty-nine years!”
As she spoke, Cindy pulled out a box of condoms from her pocket and tossed underwear in front of Finnegan.
The corner of Finnegan's mouth twitched. “What the hell are you talking about?”
“Are you playing dumb?” Cindy pointed at the object on the ground. “How do you explain this box of condoms? It was right there when I woke up this morning, and out of ten, only eight were left. Moreover... I woke up this morning feeling sore there. If it wasn't you, who touched me?”
At this point, Finnegan finally understood. Cindy had mistakenly thought that he had taken advantage of her.
He couldn't help but start laughing.
Seeing Finnegan laughing, Cindy angrily said, “Finnegan, explain yourself. Why did you do this? I am Bernie's best friend!”
After a few coughs, Finnegan finally managed to suppress his laughter. “I can't, you're going to make me die of laughter.”
Then he quickly helped Cindy recall what happened from dinner to when he sent her home last night.
Finally, he spread his hands. “So, I really didn't touch you. You bought this box of condoms yourself. If you don't believe me, ask the cashier and the convenience store staff. It's only natural that you feel sore. Who wouldn't after sitting on a bicycle without a seat? Or, worst-case scenario, let's assume I did touch you. Why are your clothes still intact?”
A hint of embarrassment colored Cindy's face, she hadn't expected that she had bought the condoms herself.
However, she still didn't believe Finnegan's words. “Is there any point in making such cunning excuses? Are you still a man? You dare to touch me but not admit it?”
Cindy still didn't believe him. Finnegan was helpless. “Melons, I really didn't touch you. Weren't you still dressed when you woke up this morning?”
With a cold laugh, Cindy said, “Finnegan, isn't it also possible that you dressed me after having your fun? This is the evidence!”
Pointing to the pair of underwear she had just changed out of that morning, she asked, “Otherwise, why would there be blood? I'm perfectly fine and I'm not on my period.”
Finnegan followed her gaze and indeed saw faint traces of blood.
He couldn't help but feel a headache. “Please, wasn't it quite normal for you to get a little hurt and bleed a bit when you sat down abruptly back then?”
“No, it was you who took advantage of me when I was drunk! I vaguely remember!”
Finnegan gave a bitter smile. “That's just your illusion, an illusion brought on by drinking too much!”
However, Cindy clearly didn't believe him. Her eyes stared at him with a mix of embarrassment and indignation, as if she wanted to devour his flesh and blood.
Finnegan pinched the bridge of his nose, his headache intensifying. “Perhaps you should check your residential area's surveillance footage,” he suggested. “The time it took for me to escort you up and down should not have exceeded ten minutes. There simply wasn't enough time. As for the two missing condoms you mentioned, you probably dropped them accidentally when you were holding the package.”
“Enough, don't make excuses. I can't check the surveillance; they are currently rearranging the lines and adding more cameras in our neighborhood,” Cindy retorted.
Finnegan slapped his forehead. “D*mn it, I should have brought her back to Dragon Bay last night.”
Romona snorted, “Regretting it now? But you really are shameless. A rabbit won't even eat the grass around its burrow. Yet, you don't spare even Bernice's best friend.”
“I...”
Finnegan really wanted to give Romona a kick in the butt. Why wouldn't she listen to my explanation?
But kicking her wouldn't help. Dispersing his thoughts, Finnegan helplessly sat down. “So you came early in the morning just to watch me make a fool of myself and join in with Cindy's slander?”
Romona suddenly became solemn. “It was my granddad who sent me to find you.”
“Your granddad?”
Nodding her head, Romona took a seat. “Did you have a conflict with Christopher of the Royle family from Bellridge and Sabrina, Leonardo's cousin, last night?” she asked.
This wasn't much of a secret. Finnegan replied, “Yes, there was something like that. Is there a problem?”
“They are dead!”
“What?”
Finnegan straightened up, quickly understanding why Nathan had sent Romona to his house so early in the morning. “You guys don't suspect that I killed Sabrina and Christopher afterward, do you?”
“Isn't that so?”
“Nonsense!” Finnegan exclaimed, “Since I publicly declared to let them go, why would I go back on my word?”
Romona said, “But you have a criminal record. Don't think I don't know that you were behind the deaths of Vilmar and Matthias!”
Finnegan waved his hand dismissively. “Enough of that. How did they die?”
