When Finnegan arrived at General Hospital, Bernice had not yet arrived. He only saw Jennifer and Bishop, along with his family. “Ms. Jennifer, what happened?” Finnegan asked.
However, Millicent was not present.
Jennifer replied anxiously, “Dad fell into the water while fishing. I'm not exactly sure about the details. He was already in there when I got to the hospital. But Timothy mentioned that it took the bodyguards nearly seven to eight minutes to rescue Dad, who seemed to have almost run out of breath by then.”
Upon hearing that, Finnegan furrowed his brows. “Isn't Old Mr. Zimmerman supposed to be fishing in the designated fishing area?”
Typically, those designated fishing areas would be surrounded by guardrails.
As long as one didn't do anything foolish, like crossing the guardrail, there wouldn't be any problems at all.
Jennifer then looked at Timothy with a complex expression.
Before Jennifer could speak, Sapphire said, “What are you looking at? Although Tim accompanied Dad to go fishing today, it was Dad himself who wanted to go fishing by the river. He even said that the fish in the river were bigger than those in the designated fishing areas. He said they tasted better, too! The inability of the bodyguards to save someone in time was also due to Dad himself. He felt that having too many people around him would scare the fish away.”
Jennifer's voice softened a bit. “But Timothy was right beside Dad at that time!”
Sapphire scoffed and responded, “Tim was indeed by Dad's side, but Tim can't swim. Are you suggesting he should have gone down with Dad?”
Jennifer anxiously said, “That's not what I meant. It's just that—”
“Enough!” Sapphire directly interrupted Jennifer's words. “I think you just want to blame Tim for Dad's accidental fall into the water. I'm telling you that there's no chance. Moreover, when Mom wakes up, she won't blame Tim either, so don't even think about slandering him!”
Finnegan raised an eyebrow and asked, “What happened to Old Mrs. Zimmerman?”
Jennifer sighed softly and replied, “Upon hearing that Dad might have fallen into the water and could be unconscious, she was overcome with such anxiety that she fainted from the shock and is now in the hospital.”
Nodding, Finnegan also couldn't be bothered to delve into those matters at that moment.
“In that case, I'll go in and check out the situation!” Finnegan said.
Suddenly, Sapphire leaped out and shouted, “Stop!”
Bishop, along with Timothy, had positioned themselves in front of him.
Jennifer asked, “Bishop, what are you doing? Finnegan was called over by Bernie to see Dad. Let him in immediately.”
“Impossible! Anyone can enter, but he absolutely cannot!”
“That's right. Moreover, aside from having no issues with your family, he seems to have problems with all of us. I won't let him get close to Dad, let alone allow him to treat Dad.”
“Dr. Cooper and two experts are already administering emergency treatment. Grandpa doesn't need Finnegan's intervention, and besides, he wouldn't sincerely treat Grandpa anyway.”
Unexpectedly, they were judging Finnegan with their own measures. Even the always virtuous and gentle Jennifer couldn't hold back anymore. “Finny is not that kind of person. How could you think of him in such a way?”
Bishop looked at Finnegan resentfully. “This brat is quite cunning.”
The thought of the last time Finnegan visited the Zimmerman residence and gave him a severe beating filled Bishop with resentment toward Finnegan.
Needless to say, Sapphire and Timothy also resolutely refused to let Finnegan in.
Sapphire even gave Timothy a nudge and said, “Go! See if your grandma is awake yet. If she knew, she definitely wouldn't let Finnegan treat your grandpa. Who knows if this guy might end up making your grandpa's condition worse?”
Right then, Patrick and Bernice had also arrived.
When they arrived, they saw Finnegan still standing at the door because Bishop and his group were blocking the entrance.
Bernice immediately understood what was going on. “Uncle Bishop, Aunt Sapphire, please step aside quickly and let Finnegan in.”
Patrick said in a grave tone, “Bishop, you and your wife need to step aside immediately. I've gathered information on the way to the hospital. Dad must receive treatment urgently. Otherwise, he will suffer irreversible brain damage, which could lead to a vegetative state!”
However, Bishop and Sapphire were incredibly steadfast.
Slap!
Millicent nodded. “Yes. Unless he swears a deadly oath, vowing on the lives of his entire family!”
Upon hearing that, Patrick and his family turned their gaze toward Finnegan.
In Bernice's eyes, there was an added measure of anticipation, tinged with a hint of bitterness.
Sapphire sneered, “Finnegan, do you dare to swear that you consider us as your own? That you have no objections toward us?”
After giving Sapphire a deep look, Finnegan shook his head. “I won't make such an oath!”
Finnegan wouldn't make such an oath. Besides, he already despised Millicent and the others so much that he wished he could get rid of them. There was no way he would swear on his entire family's life.
Sapphire's smile brightened even more. “Did you hear that? He doesn't even dare to make a solemn oath. How can we trust him to treat Dad?”
Bernice said bitterly, “Finnegan?”
“Bernie, would you make such an oath if it were up to you?” Finnegan asked.
Pausing for a moment, Bernice sighed lightly. “I don't blame you. I understand!”
Even she disliked Millicent and her group, so she couldn't expect Finnegan, an outsider, to not despise them.
At that moment, the emergency room doors swung open, and Alexander walked out.
Millicent hastily asked, “Dr. Cooper, how is Bruce doing?”
Excitedly, Alexander approached Finnegan. “Mr. Larkin, it's great that you're here. Please come in and help us.”
“Dr. Cooper, I'm afraid there's nothing I can do. The family simply doesn't trust me!”
