The Healing Avenger novel Chapter 401

Finnegan asked, “You know him?”

Sasha nodded. “He's Sunny Lambert and has been a long-time friend of my grandpa. So not only do I know him, but the priests at Derport Church know him too.”

“Is here to practice Christianity?”

“No. He would come here every year in late autumn to wait for someone. And this has been his unchanging routine for decades!”

Upon hearing this, Finnegan couldn't help but show a hint of interest. “He persisted for decades. Did he finally get what he was waiting for?”

Sasha laughed, saying, “It's not the kind of waiting you're thinking of. It's a pact he made with someone to meet once a year at this time. However, I've never seen the person he was waiting for. I only heard from my grandpa that it was an elderly lady.”

Finnegan gave a slight nod. “It seems they are a pair of elderly people who are destined to meet but not to be together, yet they deeply love each other!”

Sasha said, “I'll go over and say hello.”

As Sasha spoke, she walked away. Finnegan leisurely followed behind her, having nothing else to do.

“Old Mr. Lambert.”

The elder, who had been gazing into the distance, turned his head back.

Upon seeing Sasha, he revealed a kind and amiable smile. “Sasha, you've come to see your grandfather again? He's at the cliff behind the church.”

He paused, his gaze landing on Finnegan. A brief spark of surprise flashed in his eyes before it was quickly replaced by a serene calm.

“Is this your boyfriend?”

Sasha's face flushed a shade of red. “No, we're just friends who happened to meet at the foot of the mountain.”

She then introduced them to each other. “This is Old Mr. Lambert, and this is Finnegan Larkin.”

Finnegan nodded in greeting. “How are you, Old Mr. Lambert?”

Sunny smiled gently. “Not bad, young man!”

“Old Mr. Lambert, how many days have you been here this time?” Sasha asked.

Sunny let out a soft sigh, his gaze once again drifting off into the distance. “I've stayed longer this time than before, almost twenty days now,” he said.

Sasha furrowed her brows and asked, “Old Mr. Lambert, why didn't you just make a phone call to ask?”

“There's no need for that.” Sunny gently shook his head with a smile. “When it's time for her to come, she will come. Even if I were to call and ask her, she wouldn't come if it's not the right time. Since I have time to spare and your grandfather is here to keep me company every day, I don't mind waiting a bit longer.”

Sasha blinked, not quite understanding Sunny's state of mind.

However, she didn't say much more. “I'm going to see my grandpa first. Finnegan, are you coming?”

Finnegan gave a slight shrug. “Our mothers will probably take a while longer. Let's go.”

“Young man.”

Sunny stopped Finnegan right then.

Finnegan turned around. “Can I help you with something?”

“Your name is Finnegan Larkin?”

Finnegan replied, “Yes.”

Sunny chuckled and waved his hand dismissively. “Nice. Off you guys go now.”

Finnegan nodded and headed toward the cliff behind the church with Sasha.

As Finnegan turned the corner, he casually glanced back at Sunny, only to find that Sunny was also looking at him.

Furrowing his brow, Finnegan withdrew his gaze and asked, “How many years has he been persisting like this?”

Reflecting for a moment, Sasha said, “I'm not entirely sure, but even before my grandpa arrived, he used to visit Derport Church every year. My grandpa has been practicing at Derport Church for nearly thirty years now.”

In other words, Sunny's persistence had been unwavering for no less than thirty years.

After muttering about the strangeness of the situation, Finnegan refrained from saying more.

“Grandpa!”

How could he say that Finnegan should have gone to the Hades Palace?

Doesn't this clearly imply that Finnegan is a man who committed great evils and is devoid of humanity?

It was clear that he wanted to have a game of chess with Finnegan.

Finnegan glanced at the chessboard. “If I were to play the white pieces, you could last up to fifteen moves. If I were to play the black pieces, you could at most hold out for ten moves. The outcome would remain the same.”

“Do you mean that, whether I play the black or white pieces, I am destined to lose?”

Finnegan nodded. “You have Jesus in your heart, and kindness in your hands. As for me, I may or may not have Jesus in my heart. I may hold a knife in my hand, or I may not.”

Upon hearing this, Wyatt let out a bitter laugh. “It seems I have indeed lost. You are truly extraordinary, Dr. Larkin!”

Beside them, Sasha listened with a bewildered expression. “What are you all talking about?”

With a faint smile, Wyatt said, “Dr. Larkin, I would like to have a private conversation with Sasha.”

“Sure.”

Finnegan, with a flick of his sleeve, rose and departed.

Gazing at his retreating figure, Wyatt murmured, “Good and evil are two sides of the same coin. Whether one becomes a saint or a demon depends solely on their heart's intent.”

Sasha frowned. “Grandpa, what are you talking about?”

Wyatt retracted his gaze and asked, “What did your dad say about this Dr. Larkin?”

“My dad?” Sasha's cheeks flushed. “He asked me to find opportunities to get closer to Dr. Larkin. It... It would be great if there could be something more between us.”

Wyatt sighed lightly and shook his head. “Get rid of that thought. You're not worthy!”

Huh?

Sasha opened her mouth wide and asked aggrievedly, “Grandpa, how am I not worthy of him?”

Wyatt rose to his feet, his hands clasped behind his back as he walked to the edge of the cliff and gazed into the distant sky. “Without your background and upbringing, what makes you worthy of him? What abilities do you possess?”

Sasha's face flushed with embarrassment. “Isn't this enough?”

Wyatt shook his head. “For others, it might be enough. But in the eyes of Dr. Larkin, you are nothing more than a pretty face. You are not worthy! It's best to abandon such thoughts early on, lest they bring about your own demise!”
