Chapter 830
Halsey didn’t want her parents to worry, so she forced a small smile. “Okay, Mom.”
“That’s better. Come on. Let’s grab something to eat.”
Just then, someone approached. “Halsey?”
She looked up to see Calvin, the heir of the Johnson family, a longtime family friend.
Calvin was the refined, gentle type. He greeted them politely, “Mrs. Lincoln, Halsey. Fancy meeting you here! Are you here for lunch?”
Patricia nodded. “We are. Did you come with your parents?”
Calvin pointed ahead. “I came with my mom–she’s just up front.”
Patricia turned to Halsey, “Why don’t you chat with Calvin for a bit? I’ll go say hi to Mrs. Johnson.”
Halsey nodded. “Okay.”
After Patricia walked away, Calvin walked toward Halsey and looked at her with concern. “You seem to have lost weight. Has something been bothering you lately?”
Halsey shook her head. “No. I don’t think I’ve lost weight. I feel like I’ve actually gained some.”
Calvin smiled gently. “Beauty itself doth of itself persuade the eyes of men without an orator.”
This made Halsey genuinely smile. Calvin was the most learned in their social circle, now the youngest professor at an Ivy League school. His speech was always refined and poetic.
“Thanks for the compliment,” she said.
Just then, Halsey noticed a bookshelf nearby. On it rested a book, one authored by Calvin himself.
“Is this your published book?”
He nodded. “Yes, but it’s about archaeology. You might not be interested.”
“I’ll take a look anyway,” Halsey said.
She reached up for the book.
The shelf was a bit high, and despite standing on tiptoe, she couldn’t quite reach it.
Calvin stepped forward and retrieved the book for her. “Here you go.”
Halsey smiled. “Thank you.”
Just then, she felt a sharp gaze on her face. Looking up toward the entrance of the private restaurant, she spotted a tall, striking figure.
It was Shaun.
He had come here, too.
Shaun wore a black shirt and matching black pants, the classic look of a powerful CEO. He was like a walking fashion statement, drawing attention wherever he went. The black hollow mask covering part of his face made him appear mysterious and low- key, but impossible to ignore.
Halsey had no idea when he arrived. Now he stood by the door, his cold, clear eyes fixed on her and Calvin.
Her heart skipped a beat.
