The Heartbreak Prescription novel Chapter 884

Chapter 884

Halsey reminded herself that Shaun no longer belonged to her. He probably didn’t even want to see her again.

“Wendy, I know you’re super busy lately. I won’t keep you.”

“Alright.”

The call ended, and Halsey finally felt a little more at ease. Her biggest hope now was that Shaun would recover soon.

Just then, her phone rang again with a soft, melodic tone.

She picked up the call, and Martin’s voice came through. “Hello, Ms. Mallin? I’m Martin, Mr. Lane’s assistant.”

“Hey, Martin. Why are you calling me?”

“You need to come to the hospital. Mr. Lane was admitted.”

What?

Halsey sat bolt upright, clutching the phone tightly as her voice trembled with worry. “Why? What happened to him?”

“He was out in the rain all night and collapsed from the cold and overwhelming stress. He’s in the hospital now.”

So he didn’t leave last night-he collapsed.

He was in the hospital now.

Halsey’s heart clenched.

“Will you please come see him?” Martin pleaded.

Halsey was torn. Should she go?

They had broken up just last night. Pushing him away had been the right thing to do; it was for his own good. Dragging things out would only hold him back.

“No… I won’t go. He’s in the hospital, so I’m sure there’ll be doctors looking after him.”

“Are you really not coming? Mr. Lane kept calling your name even while he was unconscious. He misses you a lot.”

He was calling her name?

Halsey’s eyes welled up. That idiot! What was she supposed to do with him?

Martin pleaded again, “Please just come over.”

Tears rolled down her cheeks. “I’m sorry. I won’t go.”

“Why-”

“It’s better to rip the bandage off. He’ll be okay.”

The call ended with a busy tone.

In the hospital room, Martin stared at his phone, puzzled by the sound of the call ending. Why wouldn’t she come?

He remembered when Shaun went to Lhassaria with her-they seemed so in love, so happy together. But now, it had all fallen apart.

“She’s not coming?”

Shaun’s hoarse voice broke the silence.

Martin turned around and saw that Shaun was awake. He lit up with relief. “You’re awake.’

Shaun’s face was as pale as paper, drained of all color. He looked at Martin and asked quietly, ” She doesn’t want to see me, does she?”

Martin hesitated, unsure of what to say. “Ms. Mallin said she’s tied up with something right now. She’ll come after she’s done. She also told you to get some rest.”

Shaun stared up at the ceiling from his hospital bed. He knew Martin was lying to make him feel better. Halsey just didn’t want to come.
