The past month had been a blur for Halsey. Her mind was filled with thoughts of Shaun, and she hadn’t even noticed she had missed her period.

Her cycle was usually very regular, but this time it was already a month late.

She thought back to the few times she and Shaun had slept together-they hadn’t used protection. He had always wanted to get married and have kids, and she loved children too. Deep down, both of them had been open to the idea.

Could it be…? Was she pregnant?

Halsey didn’t dare tell Patricia. She didn’t want to worry her parents.

“I haven’t had much of an appetite lately. I guess I’m just too tired. I don’t really feel like eating meat right now.”

Patricia gently patted her daughter’s back. “Then I’ll go make you some vegetable stew.”

Halsey nodded. “Thanks, Mom.”

Once Patricia went to the kitchen, Halsey quickly stood up and left the house. She walked to the small pharmacy nearby.

The woman behind the counter looked up at her. “Hi, what are you looking for?”

Halsey replied, “Can I get a pregnancy test, please?”

The shopkeeper handed it to her. “Two bucks.”

“Thanks.”

After paying, Halsey took the test home and locked herself in her room.

She took the test.

The result appeared quickly-two red lines.

She was pregnant.

She was carrying Shaun’s child!

This baby had come into the world from a place of hope and love between her and Shaun. It should’ve been a joyful thing.

But now, they were no longer together.

Halsey gently placed her hand on her belly. This would be her first time becoming a mother.

She could hardly believe there was already a little life growing inside of her.

She didn’t need to hesitate. She didn’t need to think twice. She was keeping this baby!

Shaun was handsome and smart, and both he and Madeline had been straight-A students. With genes like that, the baby would definitely take after him.

All the sadness and weight that had been crushing Halsey’s heart suddenly lifted. Because now …she had a baby!

She was going to be a mother even without needing to get married!

Halsey’s heart filled with joy. She placed her hand on her stomach and whispered, “Baby, welcome to this world. I’m gonna love you so, so much.”

Just then; her phone rang. It was Wendy calling.

“Hey, Halsey.”

“Are you free today? I want to buy you dinner.”

“Sure! Let’s meet tonight at Harmony Bistro.”

That evening, Halsey arrived at Harmony Bistro and saw Wendy waiting for her.

“Hey, Wendy. Where’s Bella?”
