Shaun froze. He really hadn’t expected Halsey to be pregnant.

She’d been pregnant for two months, and she hadn’t told him?

He quickly said, “Thank you, Dr. Crone.”

As soon as the call ended, Shaun shot up from his seat, eyes shining with emotion. He turned to Martin. “Did you hear that? Halsey’s pregnant. I’m going to be a dad!”

Martin lit up. “Congratulations, Mr. Lane. You’re having a baby!”

Yes, he was. He was going to be a father!

Shaun was over the moon. In the year he had wanted a child more than anything, he and Halsey had actually made one.

Martin then asked, “Do you know where Ms. Mallin is right now?”

That stopped Shaun cold. He didn’t. From Wendy’s tone earlier, it didn’t sound like she knew either.

Where could Halsey be?

She was pregnant-she couldn’t be in danger, could she?

Shaun’s heart twisted with guilt. Thinking back, she must’ve already been pregnant during their visit to Madeline’s place. No wonder she craved sour food and kept getting sleepy. She even took his hand and placed it on her belly once.

It had all been signs. She was trying to tell him.

Shaun cursed himself for being so slow to realize it. He should’ve guessed it sooner.

“I’m calling her now!”

He grabbed his phone again and dialed Halsey’s number. The soft ringtone played over and over, but she still didn’t pick up.

“Why isn’t she answering? What the hell is she doing?” Shaun’s brows knitted in frustration.

Martin’s expression turned serious. “Do you think something might’ve happened to her?”

A terrible feeling crept into Shaun’s chest. Something wasn’t right. Halsey would never ignore this many calls.

He had to find her. Right now.

“Track her down immediately. I want to know where she is, right this second!”

“I’m on it.”

Martin rushed out to investigate.

Shaun paced in front of the tall windows, completely on edge. His gut was telling him something was wrong.

Where the hell was Halsey?

Before long, Martin came running back in. “I found her! I know where she is!”

Shaun’s body tensed. “Where is she now?”

“She’s at the hospital.”

The hospital?

Shaun stiffened. “Why is she at the hospital? Is she hurt?”

“I’m not sure about the details. We need to go see for ourselves.”

Shaun marched toward the door. “Get the car now! We’re going to the hospital!”
